Something under the paint!!!!

Oh, I'm pissed!!! Was washing my truck yesterday and found a spot on the back pilar of the cab, almost where the roof meets the back glass. It's about 1-1/2" long and 3/4" wide. It looks like there was something left on the cab when it was painted. I don't think it's bubbles, and the paint isn't flaking yet.

I took it by the dealer this morning. They tell me it is covered under warranty, but that they would have to repaint the entire cab to match it!!!!!

Would you guys let them fix this or wait until later? It's not that noticeable, heck, I've had the truck 3 months and just now saw it!!! What do you guys think?

Also, I noticed that on the bottom of the rocker panel of the truck, the paint is rough and not smooth like the rest of the truck. It's like this all the way around, is this normal or was my truck "Painted at 5:00 on a Friday".......

Take a picture of the spot on the cab. I'm not too sure what you mean.

However the paint on the bottom is supposed to be like that.

Talk to the dealer when you do this. Make sure that the repaint will still be covered under Factory warranty. You could be in for a pain in the rear down the line. I'd still get it done though.

I had a similar situation on my Isuzu. My hood started bubbling up and I took it in and it was repainted under the warranty. About a year later a spot in the center of the hood faded really badly, about eight inches across. I had moved and took it by my local dealer but unfortunately the paintjob on the hood was only warrantied by the shop that did the respray. I had to drive two hours to Tampa (From one of the greatest cities in Florida Thumper) to have it done over again. Third time was a charm though as it was still nice and shiny blue when I traded it in.

The rocker panels are supposed to be like that - it's chip stop.

Here is a pic of the spot.......

I really didn't want to have entire cab re-painted, my luck it wouldn't match the bed or front of the truck!!!

That looks like crap. I would have noticed that at the dealer before I took delivery.

Just have them repaint the whole truck, then you dont have to worry about it

i will double that, when i hear something like...."its not that noticable"

that is a seen on delivery or on the first wash atleast....that is terrible

to repaint that is a very hard call....with it being a dark color and one with metal flake in it....that is very hard to match...they can give it back to you and say the cab all matches (are the doors included in the cab??), but now the fenders and bed dont....

very hard to make anything match factory again without being noticed....dark colors very dependent on what color primer is layed down first and how many coats are sprayed....metal flake is very dependent on speed at which it was applied and at what psi and how it was mixed.....very very hard to match a factory metal flake without a keen eye being able to see it

tell them of your concern about the vehicle matching and do not want to go with the entire respray of the cab....see if they can block sand it down smooth and if it does not bust through the clear and color coat in to the primer....apply a few coats of clear on that then a quick block sand again and buff out....i think you would be good to go....

OH, I agree, it looks like CRAP..............it's at the top of the cab, so it isn't in my line of sight, so I guess that is why I missed it. This is really the first time I wash the truck real good........weather hasn't been the best until a couple weeks ago......

What troberts6874 was saying is what my concern was......it is a crew cab so you'll have 4 doors, the front of the truck, and the bed that will have to be matched. The factory is just going to paint the cab, which is just the outside of the cab, not the doors or anything else..........I know if looks like crap and it bothers me everytime I look at it...........But if I re-painted it, I could be looking at a whole lot worse like a non-matching paint job!!!!

I think I'll leave for now, unless dealer will re-paint the entire truck (not likely) or it starts to flake off.
Thanks for the input!!!

I'll talk to the dealer about that, sounds like that may work. I think if they can sand it down enough, maybe they can do what you are talking about.............worth a shot anyway.

I still want to see if that doen't work, what they plan on doing about matching the rest of the truck........would be surprised if they agree to entire re-paint......

i would guess you will hear what most paint and body shops will tell you...

--"we shot the factory color to factory specs....this is the color you vehicle used to be....the rest of the car that does not match is faded....we dont shoot faded paint...."

if you can get the stealership to re-imburse you for it, any good body shop can fix that spot and blend it in, and you'll never see it.

Another good idea, I have a local shop that does all of our body work, they are excellent at what they do...............I will take it to them tomorrow and see what they say.....

Stealership can't blame anything on fading, haven't had the truck 3 months and it has less than 2000 miles on it. Paint hasn't had time to fade!!!
