Ford's getting me a New Motor/No one likes FRAM

Just to document this event with the forum...I started in Transmissions, because the torque converter was unlocking @ 70 mph.

Then I threw a code, which said I was misfiring #7.

I took the truck in to the dealer @ 35,600 miles, and a day later they called and said the crankshaft endplay was out of spec, and Ford gave the OK to order a new motor.

So, in this instance, something went really wrong BEFORE the warranty expired. HA!

I'll have to wait about a week, but nice having an '08 in my '07.

Good for you. It's not often that something major goes wrong 400 miles before the warranty expires; usually it happens 400 miles AFTER it expires.

Just curious, what type of warranty does the new motor come with?....

don't be surprised since it was a warranty replacement- that it's only covered under the remainder of your powertrain warranty

Yeah, I was. To the best of my recollection, when I needed a new tranny for my last GM, it came with an additional 3 year/60 k km warranty from the date it was installed. That ESP cost me 2 grand. I claimed 8 grand before dumping the pig, and it still wasn't fixed.
I think blackjack8900 is correct on that.

Correct, that is how it was explained to me when I had a transfer case replaced on a previous Ford.

On my brothers 05 4.2 he had 1200 mi before his 3/yr, 36000 mi were up and he had "a new engine oked by ford" which was essentialy a rebuilt short block,(after talking to some techs that told us that) and they told him the warranty on that -was what was remaining on the truck itself. It turned out that short block itslef was bad, so they got him another one. Luckly it happend as soon as he drove it off the lot. It leaked oil real bad , so they checked the heads and it was the block itself. My 2 cents.

I can understand that because it was a rebuild. A new engine should come with a brand new warranty.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty certain the brand new tranny GM put in my truck came with a brand new full factory warranty, because it was brand new, and not a rebuild.

That sucks that you have to go though that and it’s nice you’re getting a new motor but you guys are forgetting that O7’s have 5/60,000 Powertrain Warranty.

IMO, that's the warranty the engine will come with then. I guess we'll find out when Superslab replies.

I wouldn't think the crankshaft end play would warrant a new engine, I would think bushings could solve that but perhaps there is more to the story. I'm wondering how the crankshaft developed that much play anyhow, kudo's to the mechanic for finding that!
