Who Has 4.10's?? What brand?

I have a set of 4.10 Genuine Gears installed in my 04 Screw 2wd 4.6 with the 8.8 rear end.

Only have about 230miles on them so far, and they recommend a 500 mile break in period. It has a whine at about 70-80 that's pretty darn loud. They'll look at it after the break in period. Re-Order gears and try it again if they dont quiet down. Said I could pay the difference and get a different brand. That leaves me wondering who's got what, and the issues they have had with them if any.

Please list the brand of gears you have and the exp. you have had since getting them installed.

Thanks,

Hopefully this will help me decided what brand to try next if I cant get these right!!

Tom

I've got Motive 4.10's in a 8.8" with a LS.

Best improvement ever... I dunno know why it didn't come from the factory with 4.10s.

I have Precision Gears and haven't had any problems with them.

Whine is probably due to misalignment.

No problems here.

I still don't know why these trucks are not geared higher... they'd do so much better in the gas mileage aspect stock. Not to mention the extra kick.

I had Precision gears in my 04 Heritage. I would say any whine would be from a bad install.

Would swapping gears void your warranty?

I had Precision 4.10's and they had a pretty nasty whine at 80+. I then put in Ford Racing gears, which turns out were the EXACT same thing as my Precisions. The guy pulled them out and compared them several times and said they must have come from the same plant they were manufactured at. Either way, this time when they installed them they set them to be as quiet as possible on the drive side. They both whine between 40-48mph. At 80 I still hear a slight whine but it's almost not noticeable compared to before. It's not until I hit 85 or so that it starts to whine noticably again.

This set also makes more noise when I left off the gas at 70+ than the last set but I'm done caring about this crap anymore. I just turn up the radio more.

Your issues sound exactly like mine.

40-50ish a slight whine, but 70-80 it's damn irritating. Under throttle they are quiet, let out of it or ease up and hold that speed and they'll drive you NUTTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's GOT TO BE A SHOTTY INSTALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know where I can find the spec's of a 8.8 rear end? I'd like to view the back lash settings ect..ect.. myself. Maybe quizz the guy at the shop a little and see if he knows what he's talking about. I hate being ignorant in this department and just having to accept what they tell me. They are Pro's, but Pro's at what Im unsure of. Looking more and more like Pro's at BS'ing, and Blowing Smoke!!

Some 4:10's made in the US by Ford Racing are in the fox. (The ones not made in the US are junk, pure junk...)
