Startup rattle gone away?

I and several others here on the site experience the startup rattle after a long sit. Mine was doing it more and more often, but never would do it at the dealership. I have always used MC 5w-20 and the MC FL-820S filter. So oil and filter were not the culprit. About 2 months ago, a 5qt jug and 2 single quarts of the Mobil-1 Full Synthetic 5w-20 was given to me so i figured I might as well use it on my next change. I put the mobil-1 full synthetic with the MC FL-820S filter on last Monday, April 31. I got the startup rattle upon initial startup but have yet to have it since then. The truck sat all weekend and when it normally would have the rattle it doesn't.

I'm not saying that its gone for good but it hasn't come back yet. You fellas with the startup rattle try a fully synthetic oil change one time and see if it helps you out. It may or may not but I wanted to share the information.

I had a little slap at startup. With the full synthetic (instead of the blend), I'm noticing a lot less noise.

I've had that same startup noise since I bought the truck. Sounds like its coming from the middle lower section under the floor board near the engine. I noticed if you turn the key to the on position for 2-3 seconds and then turn the key to start it wont make the rattle noise. Since I have started doing that it has never made the rattle noise again.

Mine doesn't do the startup rattle but every blue moon. Weird. I always use the MC 5w20 blend and filter as well. Like I said, weird.

That just goes to prove that full synthetic oil has a higher film strength than semi or dyno, and flows quicker at low temps.

To the OP: If you plan to continue using Mobil 1 and wish to extend your oil change intervals, I'd recommend you use a Mobil 1 filter to go with it. It's dual stage and will keep the oil cleaner longer.

Well i had planned on changing out the MC filter at say 4K miles and adding another while adding additional oil. Anything wrong with that?

Regular Mobil-1 is supposedly only good for 7500mi.....you have to use the EP-Mobil-1 formula to get 15,000mi or so they claim!.....

I'd let my eyes make that decision. If the oil is still relatively clean looking, no need for a filter change.
