when you added the leveling kit, was there any actual change in the overall height of the cab? i figure that there wouldnt be since its really just bringing the front of the roof level with the back, but ive seen posted on here a few times that their truck height went up by the height of the leveling kit which just doesnt make any sense to me....

 

Sure there is. If you raise the front to level, there will be some change in the height of the front of the cab. If the kit, like mine, was 2" and once installed it raised the truck in the front 1.75", then the front of the cab roof will raise this much or close to it to level with the back, in my case. Now it obviously won't do anything to the back section of the cab roof, or very little anyway. It will just level it all up.

 

right i understand this, but all it actualy does it bring the front level with the back, meaning there is no reduction in cab clearance than before since the front of the cab is just as high as the back always was? Im trying to make sure that it wont affect cab hight for garage clearance?

 

Well, when I put mine on, I was pretty close to my garage door opener without the kit. (I have a basement garage with 8' ceilings) As I was getting it installed I kept watching how close it was when I had to jack it up. I was pretty nervous for a while that I wouldn't get it back out. When I got it all on and got it back together it was noticeably closer to my opener. I can barely pull my truck in the middle of my garage now. So, yeah, you are correct that there is no real clearance lost at the back but the front is leveled so you do lose some there obviously. You don't lose overall cab height clearance though, you are correct. Now if you do a add-a-leaf, or swap out the rear blocks, than that is another story. This may be what you are hearing others mention it for.

You will be a little higher in the back of the cab also btw. I can prove it if you really want

Ok red is the old cab top, blue is the new. the front of the cab would be on the right, the rear on the left. The back end just pivots on the rear axle basically. So when you raise the front you're raising the center of the truck by a little. You can calculate it if you really want but it's midnight and I don't really want to

 

That's true, but it can't be much...and I don't feel like figuring it either...

 

It is around an inch or a little more probably lets leave it at that

 

Not to mention you're adding at least 2" in the back due to tire size increase. Going from 29"ers to 33"ers, or 31"ers to 35"ers..

 

If your purpose is to just make the truck level and you have clearance problems, you could lower the rear. Now if you wanted too level to get bigger tires then obviously this is not your best option.
