Exclamation Transmission Problem

When shifting into reverse the transmission has a delay and then a small shake like it kicked into gear harder then normal. maybe low on fluid?

thanks ryan

i doubt its low on fluid. You should change the fluid/internal filter atleast every 60k miles.

Scan for codes to see if there is any transmission codes.

Mine does the same thing and has for as long as I can remember. It's more like a jerk into reverse and a major hesitation. I just put it in reverse and wait two seconds or so and then THUD into reverse. lol

since new mine has delay going into reverse, i've just learned to wait a couple of seconds before giving it gas.

I just bought my used 2004 FX4 a little over a week ago and have been experiencing the exact same thing. I was searching for a cure, but it looks as though this could be something typical.

Has anyone had any luck addressing the issue or at least lessening the severity? Perhaps something with the shifter cable adjustment/replacement? I believe that reverse is supposed to be fully mechanical, preventing the ECM from being the cause. Can someone verify?

I plan on checking the fluid this evening and potentially adding a tuner in the very near future. Several reports have shown one or both these items to address the issue in some cases. It is worse going from Drive to Reverse than when shifting into Reverse out of Park.
