1st Oil Filter Replacement
1st Oil Filter Replacement
It has been suggested many times on this site to let the dealer change the oil the 1st time because the filter is on so tight. Knowing this I still wanted to replace my oil filter with a Motocraft FL820S. The oil filter on my 4X4 is located on the front of the motor under the steering rack and can not be reached from the filter sides. The factory original filter only has 1/2 half to flutes on the end of the filter so my oil filter wrench (cup style) just sliped right over the flutes when I tryed to remove it. I tryed a band oil filter wrench and it colapsed in the side of the oil filter canister. I tryed a cloth strap oil filter wrench and it to colapsed the side of the oil filter canister. I was about to give up and send the F150 to the dealer, when my buddy showed up with a Plews/Edelmam 70715 oil filter removal tool. This tool cams the sides with 4 areas of contact against the end of the filter. The harder you twist the more it cams the ends against the filter. He had it out cleanly in 1 minute without braking through the filter case.
there is a nice metal cap that fits, with like 50 teeth contact and 3/8 drive at napa, its impossible to not get ur filter out with that one, i give my new filters about 1/8 turn screwed on cause i know it will come off
