Help me decide....intake mod

I have been doing a lot of reading about intakes here and the more I read the less I know what to do. I have read a lot of threads from people warning of loss of fuel economy and running lean to people praising them because of gains in fuel economy and performance and no issues at all.

I have an 05' 5.4 with a Magnaflow exhaust, Hypertech programmer, 4.10 gears and 35's. All I am looking to do is increase my mpg a little bit. My truck runs great now but I havent done anything to it in a while and I am getting the mod itch. So i figured with gas the way it is why not do something to help with mpg. I do mostly city driving except when its hunting season and then its mostly hwy miles.

I am considering the Voland Powercore with the ram air scoop. What are the positives and negatives of this setup? Will the ram air scoop really help? Will it allow more stuff like bugs and water into the air box? Like I said the more I read the more undecided I became.

If anyone has any experience and info good or bad that could help me decide it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

since you go hunting i dont recomend it.. the scoop is sitting really low to the ground and anything can crawl up on it. not only that but if u go offroading and get stuck up in the front guess wat...? ur gonna have a lot of water/mud sucking up in it.
i might be wrong but i wouldnt recommend it.

I agree,
that setup is more for a truck that doesn't see to much offroad time.

I would suggest getting a regular CAI, such as an Airaid or the new S&B.
I've had the Airaid intake for about two years now, and not one problem.

The normal Volant is very good. I've been offroading with water over the tires and had 0 issues

but I agree that the scoop for the Volant is likely to get water into the motor

My truck rairly sees offroad, I only take it out of state and use fourwheelers once Im hunting. I dont know that I would ever take it in anything that would come above the tow hooks. I believe the scoop is for 4x4's only as it mounts underneath the driver's side tow hook. I was mainly concerned about road debre and water. I dont even know how much the scoop would increase economy or performance. I might end up going with just the intake and not the scoop. Any thoughts or info?

I second the Airaid. I've had it for over a year now and haven't had any problems.
