Another Truck has to go Thread

I swore it wouldn't happen to me, but it's coming. My wife came back from the Doc today and somehow I'm going to have twins. I swear they ain't mine. But anyways, with 1 kid already, and 2 coming, I think the F-150's days are numbered. I think I can sqeeze 3 carseats in the backseat, but have no practical experience.

So, can it be done. And safely? The outer seats have the tether system, and I can put the oldest in the middle (booster, she is 4), but should I? I really love my truck, but I can't afford her and a new "big" car either.

So now the wife and I get to go shopping for Expy's and Tahoes. I can probably get a brand new Expy for under $40k with all the bells and whistles, but those stinking Tahoes are about $45k with the features I'm after.

If you can find someone with a couple of car seats, do a "test fit" in your truck before making the big decision to trade. Six years from now, all of your kids will still fit nicely in the back of that truck, providing they all get along

If I were you, I'd stick with the truck, keep the excess costs down, seems like you'll be buying just a few diapers...

How old is your kid? I have 3 kids and have no problem fitting 3 seats across. Mine are 7, 5 and 2 right now but when my 2 year old I fit an infant seat, a regular car seat and a booster in the back seat. Right now my 2 year old is in a regular car seat and the other two are in boosters. The only problem is that sometimes it is tough to reach between the seats to buckle them.

With two infant seats it could be a little tougher because you have to have them rear facing. Make sure you test them out to make sure they fir and you still have room to move your seat back.

Buy a hard lid for the back and you have a much larger trunk than any SUV.

We use my wife's Odyssey for most trips but we have taken a couple with my truck and the kids love it.

3 adults fit fine in the back seat of my scab. I'm sure 3 child seats would be ok in a screw.

Good Lord -- one baby is sending me to the "poorhouse" -- I can't imagine what two would do!

Good luck to you and the wife.....

You can fit 3 kids in your screw, I just did it this past weekend. My oldest is turning 5 yrs and my youngest is turning 3yrs they were seated at the doors and my neice 2yrs was in the middle. The hardest part was buckeling the booster seat that my 5 yr old was in. My wife has an 05 Tahoe and the screw is wider then the Tahoe. I cant complain about the Tahoe it has 66k and never had one problem and we are still on the original set of tires and brakes.

Wow, congratulations and good luck!

I would hang onto the truck for a while, if you can afford it. But if there was ever a reason a truck is no longer practical I think you may have it!

Just FYI, my brother got a new Tahoe last year and it is gone already. I thought the fit and finish was poor at best and the displacement on demand in his words was "the biggest scam they have going."

Three car seats shouldnt be a problem but if you are looking for an excuse to get a new truck.... I looked at a King Ranch Expedition the other day. It was real nice. Not sure if you can get one for $40k though. I've seen seen some Eddie Bauers for around $35k. The White Sand Metallic Limited is my fav.

i would think with the size of the backseat in a crew, you should be able to fit 3 no problem. how is it any different really from a back seat in a expy? if i had to trade though, i'd look for something 1 or two years old. values drop like a rock, so why not let someone else take the hit for buying a new car?

Yes, you can fit 3 car seats in the back of a 150 crew. I have a 2006 CC and I have 3 car seats in the back right now. it is tight, but my 2.5 year old triplets do just fine.

Good luck with the twins, and older child, it sure can be a challenge, but it is fun!

I have had 3 carseats in my SuperCab on more than one occasion. I have 2 of my own (5 and 1 yr old) and I also pick my nephew (2 yrs old) up from daycare 3 days a week and I have no problems. The best thing I could have purchased were there DVD players that strap on the back of the headrests. Once the movie is on you don't even know they are there.

The Expy has a 3rd row. One kid can go back there. The biggest drawback to most full-sized SUVs is that it is a pain to get to the back seat if you have two kid's car seat strapped all into the 2nd row. I guess you can just make the older kid climb over the 2nd row. I know some of the Expys use to come with optional 2nd row captain's chairs, which would make it easier. the other drawback is that there is not much room behind the 3rd row unless you buy the EL. My wife's Odyssey has 2nd row captain's chairs and there is more room behind the 3rd row than the regular Expy.

Our new Odyssey has an optional 2nd row jump seat that fits between the captain's chairs. It can be folded down to use as a console or you can remove it completely.

I know most of you hate minivans but my wife love it. I cannot believe some people won't drive one just because it is a minivan. People will spend $10k more in price and get 8-10 mpg worse just to drive an SUV. We paid $28k for a 2007 Odyssey EX with leather. An Expedition with Leather and similar options will run at least $10k more than that.

Behind the 3rd row.

Without the jump seat:

The biggest difference is the height of the vehicle. You can lean across the back seat of the Expy while standing on the ground. The truck is much higher, and he'll probably have to stand on the running board to reach the center carseat.
