Vents have a "Musky" smell....

Not sure if the term "Musky" is correct, but its getting into the 80's here in Southern Cal and I'm starting to use the AC again but it smells like old rags... I was told to spray some Lysol into the vents (where are they) while the AC is on and that'll clear it up. Any other tips out there??

The vents are at the bottom of the windshield. Turn off recirculate, turn the fan speed on high and spray a little lyson over these holes in the black plastic between the back of the hood.bottom of the windsgield so it can kill the smell trapped in the system. I had to do this before on my Nissan as they were terrible about this. Usually doing it again a couple days later helped considerably in clearing up the odors I got from the vents.

There's a fungus called Penicillium that grows in the evaporator.

The best method I've found to eliminate this odor is to run vent fan without the A/C on 5-10 minutes before you shut the engine off. So, if you're driving home, turn of the A/C and turn on the vent fan 5 minutes before you get home or to work.

To get rid of the odor now, start the car, and run the vent on circulating fan between high heat and cool vent for 15-20 minutes over the next 4-5 days. You can just let it idle with the windows up.
