Finally completed the install of my Katzkins leather in my Scab FX4. It took me 2 days, stopping to take pics, 48 of them.
Start by depressing the hidden button to remove headrests http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install001.jpg Pop off acess cover on seat belt cover box http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install002.jpg Remove two 10mm nuts and pull off cover http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install003.jpg |
Depress clips and pull out rear seat back
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install016.jpg Flip seat back over and remove headrest tubes http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install013.jpg Depress button on tubes and push them out, paying close attention to location as they will only fit in the original location http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install014.jpg |
Peel off seat cover, the rear seat back has 9 hogg rings across the horizontal seam that need cut.
Rear bottom cushions, remove plastic clip between the cushions http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install004.jpg Remove T-50 torx bolt http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install005.jpg Remove phillips head screw and pull off cover plate to reveal second T-50 torx bolt http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install006.jpg Now pull out rear cushions, you may have to twist and swear, but it will come out. It helps to pry the cusion off of center pivot pin with a long flat screwdriver. |
Separate J-clips and pull off seat cover, one corner has a velcro seam to aid in removal
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install007.jpg stop peeling cover at this point http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install008.jpg Cut and remove hogg rings, the rear 40 has 3 rings, the rear 60 has 6 http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install009.jpg |
Finished rear cushion
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install010.jpg Now reinstall rear seat in reverse order of removal. I modified the infamous clips so future removal will be easier http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install019.jpg |
Front seats, Start by removing four 13mm nuts under bottom cushion, one on each corner. Unclip harness connectors, and pry push pins on harness to get bottom cushion out.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2002.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2003.jpg Remove and save the two push pins on the underside of seat cushion, you need to reuse them on new covers http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2005.jpg |
After unclipping cover, peel back cover to reveal hogg rings. Ther are 9 rings total, 3 across the back seam, and 3 on each side.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2006.jpg The bare cushion http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2007.jpg Turn new cover inside out and start attaching with new hogg rings, back seam first, then sides. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2010.jpg |
And then clean out that truck when you're done!
|
After attachment, fold over corners while turning cover right side out. attach clips to the underside.
Finished cushion http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2011.jpg Remove 18mm nut, unhook seat belt anchor http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2001.jpg pop out cover plate http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2012.jpg |
Remove four T-27 torx bolts, two on each side.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install020.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install021.jpg Now slide off seat belt cover to reveal a fifth T-27 torx bolt on seat belt guide plate, remove that also. Now unhook J-clips under seat back and start peeling upward. Stop at this point http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2013.jpg |
Ther are 3 hogg rings on the front side, and 2 on the back, cut and remove.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2016.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2015.jpg Now pull cover the rest of the way off, being careful around headrest posts so you don't tear seat cover. Reach up inside seat back from the backside and depress clips on headrest tubes and pull out, set them aside for reuse. This bolt needs to be removed, it's a 15mm http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2017.jpg |
Remove this bolt also, it's a 13mm
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2018.jpg now wiggle, pull, tug to get seat belt mechanism out http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install023.jpg Seat should look like this now http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...install024.jpg |
Great thread, keep it coming.
:beers: |
Bare naked seat frame
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...nstall2019.jpg Now install new cover, reverse of removal. If you have aftermarket covers or screw covers you now have to cut a hole for the seat belt on the top of the seat back. This is only needed if you are installing new covers in a scab or reg cab as they have the seat belt in the seat. OEM covers for a scab has the holes for the seatbelts in them. Aftermarket covers, such as katzkins do not have the holes for the seat belt or the headrest tubes, you have to cut them. Does not matter what body style you order, that's how they are. Also, if you are doing an install in a screw, you DO NOT need to unassemble the seat belt, just yank the old cover and install the new. Now reassemble seat belt and seat, bolt bottom cushion back in and plug harnesses back in, your done. |
