So how much of a lift would I need to get the job done? I guess thats the bottom line now.. the 6 ton jack had a max of 18 1/4 inches, is that suffice?
if you want to jack on the frame like your "supposed" to then no, but on a LCA or axle, then yes, floor jacks are not safe except on level ground, no jack is but think, floor jacks are like 75 lbs, and you would want to carry at least 1 stand.

mine is 21" lift and it doesnt suffice, not safely, the ones that would be ok weigh about 140lbs no stamped steel, sooooo dont think many ppl will use those

here is a thought, never used them or had any experience, but maybe a hi-lift, with wheel lift adapter, and a jack stand... i think this wouldnt be bad, while lifting the truck, you never get under it, if it falls, it falls back on the wheel so no damage to calipers and hubs, and when you get the jackstand on the frame, you are golden... just a thought, speedy, safe and cool cause hi-lifts are pretty versatile and can be mounted coolly on the hood... i reiterate hi-lifts are safe for lifting and not holding.
