IFS axle

Looking for a limited slip for the front of the truck. Problem is I don't know the spline count. It is either 28 or 31. Any help appreciated. Also if anyone has recommendations on which limited slip to use.

I think limited slip would be a waste in the front. I would just go with a selectable locker to get you through stuff. I heard the limited slip in the front is hard to control. No personal experience with them in the front, just read that somewhere before
For example http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT8115.aspx
Then you'd need an air system to go with it. Or you could go electric locker, but they aren't as reliable I believe?

I also like the idea of the locker upfront

You (and I for that matter) have a 28 spline front. These are all available for the truck:

ARB air locker
Auburn e-locker (limited slip by default, with electronic locking capabilities)
Eaton e-locker (open by defualt, with electronic locking capabilities)

Auburn also makes a standard LSD for the truck. Personaly, I am looking at either the Auburn e-locker or the Eaton.

Auburn ected!!!

I played with that thing all night friday in the snow here. People said that LS handles bad in the snow. I thought it handled great. I locked up the front axle and spinned some tire and got great traction. This unit is pricey, but it offers great benefits. I love it.

The good thing is that it has no effect on 2wd because of the transfer case and locking hubs right?

LS in the front axle will tend to give you a plowing effect in snow.

For instance. I had a Jeep Cherokee with LS in the front. Was great in the muck and dirt. Hit some snow/ice one time. The front end basically "floated" with the snow when the LS kicked in and took quite a while to regain traction.

I'd never recommend it, but then again who listens to me anyway?

ECTED is awesome though. Definitely wanna get one for my rear end.

I am not bashing you or anything, but I have not had a problem with the frontend "plowing" with the LS up front on my 94 F150, I have a Detroit locker in the rear and a Auburn posi in the front. I don't feel that the frontend "plows" any worse with the LS in than my truck did with just the locker in the rear. But I could have just gotten use to it over the years and forgot what it was like before.

Knock it all you want. I thought it worked great and I'll continue to rave about Auburn's equipment. I think its a great unit for the front differential. Spool when you need it, LS when you need 4x4

Really? I have had a couple friends with E lockers and one of them shorted out because the axle got submerged when he was going through a mud pit. Air lockers however will not have electrical shorts. Routing with protection in mind is key They both have their ups and downs I guess
