Injector service: Worth it?

My dealerhsip suggests getting the injector service. It its supposed to clean out injectors and all fuel type components. They say it should increase performance and mpg. Has anyone done this? and is it worth it? They say about $120

Thanks

My brother-in-law, who is a mechanic at a dealership and has been for 15 years, told me once that this was a useless service and didn't help anything at all. Others may have different opinions but that was his.

I had it done once (by a Ford service dept) and did not notice any difference... it idled a little rough before the service, and it idled a little rough AFTER the service. Seemed like a waste of money to me

On my Pontiac Grand Prix I got a check engine light for a misfire in cylinder 3. Well did a full tune up and reset the light. Well within 200 miles the light came back on, misfire #3 again. So I pull the plus and re-gap it and reset the light. Not even 15 minutes after the reset light was back on same misfire #3. Well took it to a local shop ran a fuel system service through it from the fuel cleaner can and PRESTO code gone and has never come back. So in some instances a fuel system cleaning may work. In my Pontiac case it did.

Our dealer just runs a cleaner through, they are not removed. Not worth it IMO unless there is a problem you are trying to resolve. Mine is an early 06 and with some of the stuck injector nightmares posted, I just replaced mine with the latest service replacement part.

Buy a can of injector cleaner, all they are doing is putting it in ur gas tank. It sounds to me like a peice of carbon or something was stuck on that Grand Prix injector which can happen, just takes time to clear it. In that case you can run injector cleaner to try to get it out of there, sometimes you have to buy a new injector. In order to tell if its the injector, if its running just disconnect the injector on that cylinder and see if it makes no change at all. If its not the injector it will run worse.

Absolute waste of money. If you fall for this, they will put you on their sucker list and suggest other unneeded services.

I forgot to mention that I tried putting the stuff in the tank and it did nothing to cure my problem. When they disconnected my fuel line and ran the cleaner from the can the engine light problem I has went away. It really all depends.

We had this done to the Exploder. It was the nasty kind you have to inject directly into the fuel rails.

Worked great, but I wouldn't recommend it before 100K miles as the truck ran OK before then (ran smoother afterwords).

You are better off maintaining a fresh fuel filter. That will keep your injectors clean.
