How to remove front driveshaft?

Does anyone on here have expierience remvoing the front driveshaft on a 04 NBS F150?(4x4) My new dust boot came in and I was planning on installing it this weekend. Does anyone have any diagrams or how to's to help me when I tackle this. The main concern is getting the front driveshaft dropped so I can slip it out of the joint. Also does anyone know the torque specs to tighten back the bolts at the U-Joint? I did a few searches but yielded nothing.

Thanks,

I can't remember the torque specs, I want to say 60ft/lbs but don't quote me. Just make sure you don't put the front shaft in backwards or you'll get a horrible bind/vibration.

I checked out RCD, Fabtech, and Rancho's website and downloaded the install instructions becuase I knew you had to remove the front driveshaft to lift. They all gave me some pretty good info. According to them it's 83 ft-lb.

Josiah, whould you happen to know what size and type of socket I need to remove the four driveshaft bolts. They are multisided bolt, not your traditonal 6 side.

You just need a 12 point socket, somewhere around a 12 mm. I not sure of the size it has been over 2 years since i did my lift.

Think so, If I knew your address. I've got them loaded in my pictures file and can email them but don't know how to from this site. For the most part, removing the front shaft is pretty much straight forward. Disregard the steps as far as removing u-joints unless they are bad. Main thing is to index and reinstall correctly. I haven't removed mine yet so this info is just out of the "book". Sent pics and hope all goes well. Hopefully, you can beg, buy. borrow or steal the tool for the clamps on the boot. Don't use zip ties or pilers, it won't hold up. Because I know. Good luck and let us know how it went.

Yup, 12 point, as soon as the driveway is clear of snow, I'll crawl under and see what you need, but 12 mm sounds close if not right on. Will give you a size tommrow.
