so for fun, occasionally buds and I would go to the gate and heckle them just to rile them up.
I have gotten comments occasionally from people at work, especially as both of my cars are V-8's...but then I point out that my truck is safer than a Honda in a wreck and that my "gas guzzlin" Mustang gets better MPG in the city/highway than most compact 4 doors (I get 17+ city, and up to 30 highway)

I need a pickup. Thats just a fact.
I had small pickups for a long time. The best mileage was 24 which was cool. My Ranger 3.0 4x4 did around 20-21 mpg as a DD. Again, cool. But I am a big guy and I never really "fit" well in those smaller rigs. And as I grow older I find myself needing more creature comforts. Hence the F-150. And I love my truck. I do feel bad about worse fuel economy than the smaller rigs.

most people who have issues with Gas Guzzlers are feel good yuppies who have nothing better to do with their lives. they get a warm fuzzy from looking down their noses at you and proclaiming you are ruining the environment.
gas is gonna get a whole lot more expensive before I get something that is more "economical". and, as someone mentioned, I'm a big boy also. 270 lbs and 6'3"...a Ranger or other small vehicle just doesn't suit me
I just got here 3 months ago. I was stationed for 5 1/2 years in Bangor, Wa on a Ballistic Missile Submarine that may/may not have carried 24 Nuclear Weapons with 3 warheads per missile.
The best group out there is this Greenpeace offshoot in Kingston, Wa. They're a bunch of white guys who pretend to be Buddist with shaved heads and orangish robes
and spout crap about how the weapons and reactors are causing radiation poisoning...pure and utter b.s....especially since your house (Radon emissions) or the Sun gives the average person more radiation yearly than what you get from Naval Nuc Power.

For the record, I got out in April of 2006 after just 6 years, not qualified EWS. I didn't want to work nuke power so job offers were coming in at slightly less money than if I had gone to a power plant. I was offered several jobs, highest $96k, average around $65-70k with a few lower than that. I chose the go back to college route though.
Shoot, in Texas you'll get teased for NOT having a truck. And 18 miles one way is a normal commute. I had a friend I worked with who had a supercrew lariat and she had a commute of around 35 miles round trip. Now she complained because she was spending the better part of $400-$500 per month in gas and tolls just to get to and from work. I told her to keep the truck for pulling her horse trailer and buy a little hybrid for commuting. With the gas and the car payment she'd still come out ahead. But her husband did well. In fact, he bought her the Lariat just so she wouldn't complain when he got his F350 the following week. The greenies can't complain though about him...after all, he builds houses and somebody's gotta haul the stuff to the jobsite where the greenies are going to live.
What kills me is that these eco groups go after folks like dirt bikes complaining about emissions. All the dirt bikes in the world on one day won't amount to the emmissions by just one of the huge superfreighter ships that transport various cargo or oil. And those nuclear powered Navy ships are a hell of a lot cleaner as well.

this whole post reminds me of that article going around a while back about the guy who saved all his pennies to buy a hummer and then lift in on 37s. Woke up one morning and all the yuppies around him slashed the tires and beat the crap out of the hummer with bats! Luckly here in CT most people drive trucks ad SUVs -
I used to get a good laugh when I lived in IL - they have special environmental license plates available. The surcharge goes to environmental groups. Used to see quite a few of them on Excursions and Suburbans.

If I get into an accident I rather be behind the wheel of my F-150 then a Prius.
