4x4 HELP

Alright I have a 06 fx4. I have never owned a shift on the fly before, just the good ole manual locking hubs. I can get my truck in four high, but it wont shift in four low. I tried to shift in neutral, and i tried rolling like 1-2 mph still nothing. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to take it to the dealership? I have had it in four low two other times but the LOW light never came on I could just tell by how it drove and turned. Just need a little help.

I don't know if this will be of any help, but this is what I do. Put the truck in 4wd, once engaged stop the truck and put the shifter in neutral. Then turn the **** to low range, wait a couple seconds and as soon as the truck moves the light for low range pops on.

One time I did go right from 2wd to 4low and the 4low light never came on just the 4wd light. But every other time that I have done what I post above everything has work flawlessly. If you are still having problems after trying my suggestion I would say to take the truck to the dealership and have them look at it.

The proper way to shift it is to put it in neutral, press the brake and turn the **** to 4LO. It doesn't matter if it's in 2HI or 4 HI, if everything is working properly it'll shift.

Correct, and, if your 4x4 low light wasn't coming on when you knew it was actually engaged, then that's another matter. I had that happen the day I bought the truck (4x4 was engaging properly, but light was flickering and not staying on) and they replaced the solenoid. It's been fine since.

If you don't try to engage 4 low specifically as Tbird mentioned, it won't work. You have to put your foot on the brake while it's in neutral.

Yep, same thing happened here with my 05, except I was sliding backwards down a snow packed hill while hunting. Could only get it to engage into 4 high not 4 low. You have to have your foot on the brake for it to engage into 4 low and in nuetral.
