iPod FM Transmitter

Can anyone recommend a good quality FM transmitter for my iPod? I see so many that there has to be something that sets them apart.

Thanks

To be honest... you'll want something else after a few weeks.

The sound quality isn't great, and its a PITA to keep having to find usable stations.

I'd suggest another method. But to answer your question, the sound quality will be the same with all of them... the only differences will be if its a charger, ease of selecting "open" stations, ect.

The 1 that I got is made by BERKLIN I . I like it ,as long as the song is quality when you put it on the ipod it will sound good. You will need to turn the ipod about half way up, then yous your sterio for the rest.Iv found that the 1 with the charger worked like *****,I had that 1 and took it back, and bought the $20 one that plugs in where the headphones go.They both was made by BERKLIN 1 WAS $50 AND 1 WAS $20 AT WALMART.Hope this helps you good luck (I yous 99.9)

I had the iTrip for awhile, and the quality was ok. I didn't like how I didn't have a charger and how I hated having to mess with it while driving.

I ended up upgrading to the complete interface. I control everything with my steering controls and the buttons and the head unit. The quality is amazing.

Is there an ipod hookup kit for the 04-06 trucks? I have an aux button that does nothing currently, is there anything that takes that channel?

Nevermind, I searched and found some stuff. FM transmitters are not that great for permenant use, the quality is not good and as others have said, finding available channels is becoming increasingly difficult.

I know that the interface would be the best, but I have a work F-150 that I drive about 200 miles a day, plus my personal F-150 that I only use on the weekends. PLus I want to use it in my wifes car to. Dont feel like doing it to all 3 cars. Especially I get a new work truck about 50K.

Yea, keep searching - I have a PIE unit, that has workrd troublefree for the last few years. Utilizes your AUX feature on your stock HU. Excellent sound quality also.

I had an iTrip for a while. It worked alright. It's getting increasingly hard to find any stations that work 1/2 way decent near any major metropolitan area. I went the direct connection route with a new Alpine deck and the Full Speed cable. That is by far the best mod I've done in my truck (along with the rest of the stereo). You gotta have good music while you're driving.

As for you, I can understand not wanting to mess with 3 different vehicles. Like stated before all the FM transmitters will basically sound the same. Just the features set them apart. I'd look for one that doubles as a charger and also maybe has a digital display. It should make tuning into a good station much easier.

I've got a Harmon Kardon iDirve. I like it a lot and it keeps my ipod out of sight so no body knows if it's in my truck or not. The sound quality is pretty good, but it's still an FM transmitter and rarely do I have a station coming through. You can get the older ones, like I have, for $70 or so, or a new color one for $300.

The screen is at top and the controller is on the left of the radio.

I bought a unit from Monster. It works well because it takes over the station you set it to. You don't have to search for an available station to use. I got it for $80 at Radio Shack. My truck has the aux. input but it only plays, it doesn't charge the ipod. This unit charges, plays on any station and has three pre-sets you can program. I plug it into the rear seat power point and run the cord up to the driver seat next to the center console. I stuck the ipod onto the side of the console with some industrial velcro. I put it below the top of the seat height, you can't see it unless you know it's there but I can still get to the controls. I feel better about leaving it in the truck that way. Not bad for eighty bucks IMO.
