This is a question for those that have been behind their main dash console area before.....this is on my 2007 F-150 KR.

I was tapping into some wires for gauges I am mounting when I accidentally "broke" the clip that holds one of the connector in place. I was pretty upset until I started to look a little more closely and discovered that holder for this connector has no pins....it is just a clip that holds the connector in place.

Has anybody discovered this before? The connector is grey I believe with 8 pins and 7 wires, and it plugs in below the climate control area between the connector for the cigarette lighter and the connector for the reverse sensing system button.

This harness contains wires for power and ground and also ties to the variable voltage for light dimming.

Anybody discovered this or know what this connector is for? Since I have a KR I don't think there are any "options" that I am missing that it could be used for? I am concerned that I might have broke something else that I am not aware of but everything seems to be working fine with this connector just hanging.

Also, I accidentally blew the 5A fuse for the "cluster" and replaced it temporarily with the 5A fuse for the "radio (start signal)". Does anybody know what this fuse does? With the fuse out, I also don't notice anything operationally wrong or different with the truck.

Well I am going to take a shot in the dark at this. I am not too sure, so anyone please feel free to corect me.

If it is located near the steering column under the dash, it sounds like it may be for the trailer brakie wiring harness. The dealer supplies you with a package (usually located in the drivers side door pouch when purchased new) that contains a harness that needs to be connected there and routed out back for trailer brakes when they are applicable, however the trailer brake harness is a grey 6 pin harness with 5 wires (green for stop lamps, brown for the light feed, white for the ground, red for ac power, and blue for the electric brakes). Doesn't seem to be the same number of wires, but maybe this is it?

 

Good thought, but no......I use the brake controller harness to plug in my Prodigy and the one I am referring to under the stereo and climate control is a different one.

 

I have an FX4 and i took this pic of these connectors that are not pluged into anything is one of these it? anyone know what there for?

 

I am pretty sure it's that grey one you see in your pic I attached below. Your dash layout looks to be different than mine (my cigarette lighter is on the side and yours appears to be in the middle), but those connectors look the same. My grey connector actually has a spot where is plugs in to the back of the dash face, but it is a "holder" only (i.e. it doesn't actually connect to anything).

 

When the truck is built, it is put together using a pre-made wiring harness with all of the possible connectors.

Makes assembly at the plant 100% more efficient.

 

Those plugs in the dash, one is for the button to disable the backup sensor, not sure about the other, heated seats maybe? But it's what ManualF150 said, premade wiring harnesses whether you have the option or not.... Makes assembly much easier if every truck gets the same wire bundle installed, just some connections don't get plugged to anything.

 

Back up sensor sounds right to me,as I have that option, the other plug could be the satellite radio as I too have the extra plug but no satellite radio.

 

I was about to comment that I have a King Ranch.....so what options could I be missing? But I do NOT have satellite radio, so I like that theory and it makes a lot of sense.

so if the wiring harnesses are all generic, you are telling me that the pigtails are in the door so that I can get door panels out of an xlt and regulators for windows, get a reflash and have factory feeling power windows and locks?

 

Don't know about doors...usually the factory wiring harnesses are all the same for under the dash which would be most difficult to add later, and makes it easier for production to be all the same, but doors go on after body, so maybe it's not the same. You could check to see if they're there though

 

TTT Can anybody identify these unused plugs?

 

In the center console you've got the BU silencer, 4WD selector, cig socket, power port, and something that goes between the cig socket and the BU silencer. I think there is also a link cable to go up to the overhead console if you have the option.

 

Could the other plug be the Tracion Control Off plug? That and the Backup Sensors Off are the only two buttons that go there.
