Nooooo!!!!

Seems like my 04 FX has reached that point where things are starting to go bad, or should I say worse. The "clunk" in the rear is still there, the constant "ticking" of the motor, the window switches that will not work, the rattling wires in the front pillar, warped rotors, and now my CHECK ENGINE light is on! I am assuming that you can use a wire to "jump" the ECU and pull out the code but I don't have a service manual to cross reference. Anyone out there with one that could look up a code for me???

The clunk in the rear end is somewhat common, there's a TSB for it, you need your slip yoke in your driveshaft greased.

if the ticking noise is quiet, its just normal injector noise.
If it sounds like a diesel, theres also a TSB for that.

Wish you the best of luck. All of a sudden I had a severely embarrassing squeak when I went into reverse. I just lubed up my ujoints and that seemed to have fixed it. That among many other problems. You gotta realize, no truck lasts forever.

Now that is the truth...

Not only in a truck, but pretty much everything... including the universe as we know it.

I had the truck at the dealer numerous times for the rear end "clunk" and they tell me that it is a "normal" thing, they couldn't find where the rattle is coming from, switches just recently stopped working, rotors recently warped, and the ticking just seemed to get worse. I never really noticed it too much until I had to get on it a bit with a cold engine because I pulled out onto the road on a blind corner and had a car coming at me. It sounded like a rod was going to come shooting out the side of the motor! All this and my warranty is long gone! Seeing as I am/was in the real estate business (dead business) with a second baby on the way, I need to watch my pennies right now like never before.

Does anyone know if you can pull the code out manually with a wire or do you have to have it scanned?

The motor should not sound like a rod is going to let loose, you need to look into that pretty quickly.

I seem to remeber a member here cleaning the contacts on the window switches with good results. The drivers side on mine has started to have a delay and I am going to try this.

See if you can have the rotors turned, if not new rotors can be out on by you and are not too terribly expensive.

Most autoparts store's will let you rent a code scanner or read the code's for free. I would get that checked out quickly as it could be related to your knocking noise and I doubt a problem that severe is going to fix itself

Autozone will check your codes for free, among other places.

I remembered that AutoZone would scan it, so I took it there this morning. Looks like a loose connection on the fuel sending relay. As far as the rotors, you can't turn the factory ones. Ford put the thinnest ones on there that they could. If they were turned they would be under spec and immediately warp again. I decided to go ahead and order a set of the Powerslot Cryo rotors and some Hawk pads. Didn't need to spend the extra $$ but I also don't want to have to worry about it either.
Now the window switches....I guess I am going to have to set aside some time and take it all apart and see what I can do. Free time is not something I have much of right now unfortunately.

Thanks for the help though!

That's why you need Dodge's new lifetime powertrain warranty. I sure wish ford would start doing that! It's non-transferrable, but as long as you keep it forever, you're set!

Good deal man. My rotors are pulsing too so let us know how those rotors work out as I am going to have to do something in the next couple weeks.

How much were the rotors if you don't mind me asking.

I hgear ya on the free time, my window has been acting up for a while now and I have yet to get around to messing with it. Going to have to get to it soon though as it is gradually getting worse

Good luck with everything, what are your plans for the trouble code? Are you going to take it in
