Ugly Plastic B Pillar

Posted this in the detailing section, they mentioned to post over here, I might get some better respones...

I have a 2007 XLT Screw but I've seen this on Scabs as well. I am the only one who can't stand the ugly plastic that is between the front and rear door windows? Is there any possible way to make that area look nicer? I've tried everything and it just doesn't look right no matter what. It just looks dull! If Ford just surrounded the window frame with the same material the rest of the door is made from, like all other vehicles, it would look so much better. I think the older models use to have it, WTF? Whats the point?

I've seen chrome pillar covers but I'm trying not to go for that look. I've seen nice plastic covers on some Explorers that look pretty good. Do they make similar ones for F-150's? What do you guys do?

if you go to the dealership, you may be able to order some from an 04, which are glossy. i think in 05, or halfway through they switched to the matte finish

I've also seen carbon fiber pillers as well.

Anyone know how much the stock 04 pillar covers are? I'm debating on getting the CF covers or just get new ones. It's one of the few areas that wasn't mint on my truck when I bought it. Especially the drivers side has some dents and scratches on it.

Personally, I don't the CF covers would go to well. I am though interested in the stock 04's and think they would look better!

I just noticed the other day that between by doors on my crew cab the paint seems to be rubbing off the pillars where they rub together. It can't be noticed from the outside, no matter how hard you look. I can see the bare metal underneath.
Is this happening to anyone else? I wonder if the dealer would replace them?

beware of what you wish for. my expy had the same glossy trim on the rear corners of the vehicle and the b pillars as well. they started fading and turning colors after awhile. i bought the truck used, so i didn't get a chance to start the maintenance on them. wax may have prevented it, but i'll never know. once it turned, there was no way to get it back.

I agree -- that flat black pillar cover they started using in '05 looks out of place on the vehicle. The glossy '04 covers looked much better!

For what it's worth, my wife's old Pontiac Sunfire had a glossy pillar cover similar to what we are discussing. Over time, the appearance of it degraded to the point where it looked pretty terrible -- and I washed and waxed that vehicle on a very regular basis.

My suspicion is that Ford switched to the flat black cover for one of two reasons -- cost or durability......

04 Gloss Pillars

I think I paid $33 each in 2006 which would be about $43 now from Ford

It might be cheaper to have the matte finish painted.

I paid $168 shipped. The above price is what they cost in 05

How to link from Hotlap

from what i remember, they get completely destroyed when you have to pull them off because of the double stick tape
