High Pitched noise cold weather
High Pitched noise cold weather
Greetings,
Anybody ever find out what is causing the intermittent high pitched whine coming from the engine during very cold weather ? I know it is not the belts and I have heard some mention of the MAF sensor. The engine is up to temp, but while driving in the very cold the noise shows up.
I have an 05 SCAB with the 5.4 engine
Thanks,

I agree with pats04xlt, I seriously think it is the alternator. Mine did the same thing this morning (-5 F) and does it every cold morning (anything below 15 F). It only lasts for about 4 or 5 seconds but I'm convinced (gut instinct) that it is the alternator. I feel that if it was the powersteering it would last longer. Also, there isn't any load on the P/S at startup (unless it is priming the system). The alternator tries to kick on as soon as the engine catches.
Just my two cents...please, I don't need change.

Mine does it also for about 3-5 seconds only when really cold then goes away. Probably normal?? If it was the alternator or whatever other component, replacing it probably isn't going to make the noise go away in cold weather start ups.
noise
It is the altenator. We just had a cold snap of -45ish cel. for the past month Changed the alt., gone now. No noise. Faulty ford mexican part.
