Thumbs down 30 MPH Headwinds suck

those of you in the midwest might know what I'm talking about... we had 30-40 MPH winds this weekend. Yesterday in Northern Indiana/Ohio the wind was out of the west... and I was driving from Ohio to Indiana.

Fighting the gusts was bad enough, but even worse was the MPG drop. My edge was reading about 11-12 MPG with cruise set just below 80

Usually I get 17-18 on the highway

I can't imagine what I would have gotten if I were driving east... might have set a new record for F150 gas mileage

Cruising through windy wyoming gives about the same effect, especially when you are taking mountain passes with a headwind. It gets a tad pricey on the gas bill.

I usually get 22 mpg, as an average... but the cold and the winds make a huge difference.

I had a headwind that was about 30 mph, and my MPG dropped to like 18 mpg. However, it went back up after driving through the city.

One day hunting i drove with a 77 MPH tailwind and got 24 MPG highway (5.4L) but the way back was against the wind, im pretty sure my mileage was single digits.

Wind definitely affects MPG with these trucks. Mine varies with wind direction as well.

That was a crazy storm ! I also got the pleasure of driving through that. Debris flying everywhere, most roads closed unless 4x4 (and one place was only allowing lifted 4x4's). Didn't calculate MPG tho, not something I worry about.

Worst mileage I ever got was into a headwind.

West Texas on I-20 and I-10, headwind prolly close to 50 mph, AC on, cruise set at 85, I got 13 mpg. My usual highway mileage on level ground with no wind, keeping it around 70, is right around 20.

Yea I experienced those winds yesterday in VA on a 4 hour trip. It was like climbing a mountain the whole trip if I let go of the gas the truck would slow down 10 mph like I was on the brakes.

we got our fair share of artic wind in minnesota. the wind was kicking up snow and causing white outs. one minute your driving with a few cars around you the next there is nothing but white. and with the headwind blownin my truck around it was a very enjoyable ride hahah

Last Nov, I went from KC across to almost St Louis and back on I-80, not too bad of a wind, at least I thought since it was N-NW, got 6mph... didn't have my cold air installed yet.
Put one on my Expedition & it raised it from 14 to 18 consistently.
