Got a few questions on a lift and towing

Whats up guys?? I just bought an 07' 4X4 supercab with the wittle 4.6.....I ran across a 3" leveling kit and aal for $180. Will this be ok for my truck or is 3" too much for the ball joints???? After the lift I want to add some 20 moto metal 951's with either 33's or 35's........I know this is asking a lot but I also have an 04' Ford Lightning that I take to the track. PSI Motorsports usually pulls the truck in an inclosed but I know the 4.6 will have trouble pulling the truck on an open car. I guess the question is have any of you ever pulled 5,000lbs with a 4.6 and 33's or 35's???? Thanks for the help and here are a couple pics and vids of the Lightning I will be towing.....Thanks for the help guys.

Beautiful Lightning! I love those trucks.

As far as towing with a 4.6L and 33's or 35's, I really think you may want to stick with 33's at the most. Even 33's will impact your power, unless you change the gearing. Does the truck have 3.55's? If so, you may not want to go above 31's or whatever the stock tires are.

Thanks man. I wanted a truck just like yours but going back to school put a stop to that right quick. And I'm not positive but I think the truck has 3.73's. As soon as I can make it back to my tuners shop I'm gonna pick up a Excal 3 so atleast the truck will be tuned. That should help a little.

I tow a lifted samurai on a open double axle trailer. I would say its about 4,000 LBS or so. It does fine. I tow it up some steep back country dirt roads and through some pretty hairy stuff. If i take it slow, it will get up and over quite a bit of stuff. It works hard, but does the job.
(I will be regearing to 4.88's shortly)

I have towed my 1500 lb trailer and my 3500 lb excavator with my 4.6 and 33's. As long as you dont expect to race with it you will be ok. I plan on regearing sometime soon, but with the 3.55's I do ok.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yeah I defenitly dont plan on racing or even thinking about making this a fast truck. Not what they were meant for and plus I've got my Lightning for that. I just wanted something to get me back and forth from school and also pull my Lightning to and from the track when my tuners truck is not available, wich is very rare. Thanks again and I'll post up some pics after the lift and tires/rims go on. Oh yall never said if I'd be ok with a 3" leveling kit and aal. Let me know about this please. Thanks

You have the same truck/engine/gears that I do. I am also wanting to run 33's but was worried that it would be a dog. I am not a power junkie so I don't mind to loose a little power but I don't want an absolute dog. What is your truck like setup this way?

I wouldn't put a 3" kit in the front end, since most 2.5" kits end up netting about 2.75" so a 3" would probably give you more than 3". Which is way too much IMO. I would go for either a 2 with airbags or 2.5" with a AAL or bags.

^^ good eye... i went right over that ! Yes the 3" leveling kit will just kill your front CVs and your ball joints. Its way too extreme of an angle. I would stick with the 2.5"

Ok so a a 2.5 with aal or with out aal. From the middle of the rim to the bottom of the front fender the measurment is 23" and on from the middle of the rim to the bottom of the quarter panel in the rear its 25". So exactly 2" of difference. Since yall say the 2.5 is actually 2 and 3/4 I should probably just go with the 2".

Here is another option that I just remembered, Autospring Corp does also makes a 1.5" kit. If you went with the 1.5" kit (would probably net you around 1.75") you would still have some rake left in the truck. So then when you hook up to the trailer the truck will stay closer to level.

I went with the 2.5" autospring kit and it made my truck prefectly level, but as soon as I hook up to a trailer or put any wieght in the back the rear drops. For that reason I put some Firestone airbags in the rear.

put airbags in the rear. if you dont, and you have a leveling kit, your front end is gonna be up in the air with your trailer hooked up.

Firestone ride-rite bags arent too expensive, i'd give them a shot. With an AAL your back end will sit up when you're not towing, which wont look great on aftermarket wheels. with the airbags, you can sit level with or without the trailer.

Yeah I wont be hauling a trailer often at all. Just wanted to know if the truck would do it when/if I needed it to. I think from what yall are saying I'm just gonna go with the 2" leveling kit and if it needs another leaf I may do that or I can always put a 1" or so block in between the leaf and axel if it needs it. Thanks again for all the help guys. Like I said I'll post up the pics when I get it all done. Oh and I am assuming the shocks will be fine correct??

If you go with the Autospring kit then yes your shocks will be fine. The autospring is actually a spacer that bolts to the top of the stock coilover so you don't have to tear the coilover apart. Just unbolt a few things like the sway bar, upper control arm, and the coilover itself. Bolt the spacer on and put it all back together.
