new 08 camera

well guys....i am an OEM kind of person. i recently bought a new 08 F150. i had to decide between 2 of them on the lot. one stickered for $43000(KR) with rear camera, and the other stickered for $40000(Lariat) without the camera. well with lil kids i decided to buy the cheaper one, save 3K right off the bat and then try to add the new camera. yea it might cost about $1000, but i am an OEM kinda guy. well i got my wiring DVD in yesterday and started my research. as of right now, it doesnt look all that hard. yes i will have to buy the new mirror and tailgate handle and camera. i was told at my dealer that the camera has a pigtail already on it that plugs in under the spare tire.

so here is what i have, the only difference at the rearview mirror is the 2 video wires and the connector. so all you really have to do it buy a new connector, move the pins from the connector that came in the truck to the new locations in the bought connector. then add the 2 video wires and run them back to the camera. there you will need to buy the connector that plugs into the camera. there is also a power and ground at the camera and u can run those wires with the video wires and tie into the rearview mirror, since they do the same thing.

yea the mirror is around $600, camera $200 and handle $150, but like i said, i am an OEM guy.

just thought i would let everyone know i think it is possible without having to buy ford harnesses and such. i will keep everyone undated. i think i am going to wait til tax refund time. hopefully in a month or so. later guys!!

update

the main body harness is wired with the camera wires. just need to add 2 wires from a connector behind the glove box to the mirror and get the new 12pin connector there and put in correct pin slots.

at the rear, just need to add the camera and its harness and tape into 2 wires that are already there and then add 3 wires into the main harness.

that is all!!!! sounds easy, just need the money to buy the parts!!!!

now as far as pre-08's.....i think you can make the harness and run from camera to the mirror and be in good shape!!!!!! just pricey!!!!!

You're living the american dream: eyeballs deep in debt. Truck is paid off since July of 06, Honda pilot has 2-3 years left. Thinking about trying to scrape some funds together to pay off the honda after tax return and bonus time but the plastic debt has gotten a little high and need to squash it first.

Daughter is going to start summer camp this year and then pre-pre school in the fall. Son is going to stay home with momma for a couple of more years.

Its fun with two working!

part numbers

black handle non-ptm 8l3z-9943400-ac $74.62
camera 8l3z-19g490-a $262.66
mirror w/video 8u5z-17700-a $640.00
wire harness to mirror 8l3z-14334-ga $26.66

my dealer friend in parts said the camera comes with the wire harness that is in the tailgate. other post on here said it is extra. his pics show it, so i dont know there.

so change out the mirror, change the harness from mirror to where it hits the main harness behind the glove box is all u have to do up front.

add handle, camera, no tie camera harness to main harness-5 wires- and u are good to go.

tascaparts.com has some of the parts at a better price. might have to but from both or see if my friend will match. but have to watch out for the 10% shipping tasca charges.

only time will tell!!!

The part numbers don't seem to work on tascaparts.com or directfordparts.com . Am I doing it wrong? Right now I am only interested in the handle. I plan on using maybe my own camera into my Avic-D3. Thanks for the numbers and prices Labman.

they are so new that they are not in their database. you will have to call them and they can look them up and add them. i got a better price for the handle at my dealer, plus tasca adds 10% for shipping. my dealer usually sells me my stuff at wholesale and then he usually take a lil off b/c i go and pay for them on the saturday he works so he gets commission. always a plus to have a friend on the inside. but i would try to call tasca or the other site you mentioned. later!!!
