Broken Mirror

This is twice This time I was backing up and it just broke the back part of the mirror off. It's basically the cover that you would see if standing in front of the truck looking at it. There are 4 posts that hole it to the rest of the unit with screws, those posts broke off.
It's and 04 FX4 with heated and turn signal mirror so it's just black plastic, no crome or paint. Can just that piece be relaced or do i have to buy the whole thing again??? I don't want to spend another $120 if I don't have to, last time I proke the entire mirror, shoudl have saved it I bet the I could have got the piece off and fixed this little F up of mine.
If I can just replace that piece how do you get the actual mirror off to get to the screws???
TIA

I don't have a way to get a pic on here. It's would be the back half of the whole mirrow unit, the part you would see from standing in front of the truck looking towards it.
Last time I broke mine I broke the same part you did this time. These mirrors are great for driving b/c you can see everything but when backing out of my garage they are PITA.

Let me know how much you want and what shipping might be. I'll probably take it. My actual mirror is fine. Does it just pop out and back in? I'm not sure how to get the mirror out of the assembly.

From what you desribed, it sounds like you broke the skullcap. They are replaceable, and cheap. The FX2 paintable skull caps are about 35 bucks new from ford.

To get the skull caps off, rotate the mirror glass down as far as it will go. Reach in behind glass and pop the plastic clip with a long thin screwdriver, once you get the first one,the mirror will just pop right out. Look inside mirror housing, you will see 4 screws, remove them, and the entire front half of the housing comes off, that is your skull cap.

If you did just break your skull cap, here are the part #'s for the smooth paintable ones Part #'s are: 7L3Z-17D743-BA & 7L3Z-17D742-BA

Now, from what I've read, they are smooth on the top, ready for paint, and have a rough textured surface on the bottom half. AFAIK they only fit the power, heat, signal mirror housings.

I have a mirror I can send you for just $20 plus the shipping...all that's broken is the glass. It was broken by a local carwash the week I bought my 04 band new back in 04. It shows no signs of wear at all.
