Lifters Lifters Lifters Ahhhh

Ok heres the problem... Any time I start my truck I get a knocking sound for about 2 -3 min until it gets sorta warm (not to loud but noticable). It a 2004 with the 5.4L. I remember seeing a tsb on this lifter issue issue. Any one else have this issue? Will it eventually cause damage? I really dont want the dealer tearing my engine apart with only 31k on the clock. What do you think I should do? I am running 5w20 mobile 1 oil and a mobile 1 filter and change the oil about every 5500 miles.

There are no lifters on a modular engine, IIRC. I think you mean cam phasers? Kinda sounds a little bit like a diesel?

agreed you do not have lifters in the modular motors which you have.Yes I have had the knocking sound in a 05 with 5.4 that I was going to buy.Ended up being cam phaser.Get it fixed while you still have a warrenty. Also could be a sticking injector.I got a thing in the mail from Ford saying IU get a 100,000 mile warrenty on my injectors because they are having problems with them.

Wow sounds like none of you guys know anything about the three valve 5.4l. Oh, did you know it actually has THREE valves per cylinder. All the modular series engines have "lash adjusters" which operate similar to a "lifter". And yes there have been some noise concerns with them.

Thats why I said IIRC, which I obviously did not recall correctly.

Might be the lash adjusters. The noise is there for a few minutes then goes away. I dont mind the noise unless it will cause long term damage. I ususally keep the rockers of the 57 t bird a little loose so you can hear them, but that is a pushrod motor with solid lifters. Any suggestions would be great?
Thanks

The cam phaser noise happens at idle when the engine is warmed up, you say it stops when the engine is warmed up so I don't think it is the cam phaser.

Mine does it all the time. Guess I need to have it looked at.
