Must have been an option. Before i got the ezdown thing my tailgate would fall with its full weight. Often kids from the neighborhood play on our yard around the truck and i was always worrying they might try to open it and get hit on the head.
Got mine from jcwhitney.

EZ down rocks! and it is woman pleasing...
Another advantage is when you are driving with the tailgate open without any weight
on it, the ez-down prevents the tailgate from flapping up and down so harshly when
you hit bumps.

Quick question, I bought mine about 3 months ago, and went to install it but Couldn't get the bolt off, that holds the cable (Up top by the tail light) What did some of you all do? I stripped the Torx that came with the kit, and broke the one that I had, I'm beginning to think the bich is tached on!

The gate doesn't "flop" open.

Same thing happened to me, stripped the torx wrench that came with the kit. I have some grabbits (bits for removing broken bolts) and managed to find one that fit decently and it was able to remove the bolt that way. I didn't crank the new bolt down all that hard just in case I ever wanted to remove it!

All in all, great mod!

Vise grip!! Your replacing the bolt if you scratch or imprint it anyways.

How is the 'up' operation of the tailgate after installing these?

Is it just as easy to close or is there some resistance from the shock?

Pep boys had them advertise for $54.00 and I went there ready to pay that but they rang it up at $37.00. I got it about a year ago also.

Two great big thumbs up from me on the EZ Down....

I've had one for, maybe, a couple of years now.
