How do I stop my front tire wear?
How do I stop my front tire wear?
Guys I have a 2004 FX4 Crew with 47k miles. The original 18" BFG tires scalloped really bad, more towards the outside. I replaced with Bridgestone Dueler AT P275-65-R18 and the front tires have also worn on the outside edges over approx 15k miles. The truck was purchased new from a Ford dealer and came with a 2" font level kit installed. I had Ford re-align the truck twice now. The truck is a daily driver mostly within a 10 mile area but on occasion tow a single axle trailer or load up the bed with heavy stuff when working projects around my property. I like how the truck looks with the 2" level kit installed except when I tow or load up the bed the front end raises up like it's under serious load in the back. I think this is causing my front tires to have increased positive camber which is wearing my front tires on the outside edge, especially the passenger’s side. I would like to replace the tires again and would like to know what my options are to try and prevent prematurely wearing away another set of tires. I've seen some air bag type helper springs and other types available, would this be an option?
thanks
thanks
I've got the 2.5" installed and my tires wear just fine. Been installed for about 7,000 miles now without any weird wearage.
I think your dealer is not getting the camber right

I also have a level kit, and wound up getting Firestone Ride Rite #2350 air bags. I installed them 3 weeks ago. I couldn't stand the tail-down look whenever I had a load in the back or towed. These are just what I needed. Paid about $235.00 incl shipping on ebay.
But I also agree w/ a camber issue since your truck got leveled. After I installed my leveling kit, I brought it right to a real alignment shop...where they do this every day in and day out...and they aligned mine dead-on. While I'm not faulting Ford's techs, you might want to bring it to an independent shop for another look.
I know this is better directed to the alignment shop but would it be best to have the truck re-aligned first to correct any camber issues that may exist or replace the tires first and then get re-aligned immediately after. I want to avoid the worn tires from impacting the alignment but not sure it’s even relevant.
I believe the Firestone Ride Rite #2350 air bags are exactly what I've looked at.
