Low fuel light issue

Just wondering how many gallons of gas you can put in your truck when the low fuel light indicator comes on.

The last couple of times I filled up I noticed that my low fuel light has been coming on earlier. Today my light came on and the guage was still reading above a 1/4 tank. I went and filled up and was able to get 18 gallons in. I have a 30 gallon tank. I recall only having about 4.5 gallons left before. Anybody else in the cold been having any issues?

Umm, that was a little confusing...

When you say your low fuel light has been going "off", I assume you mean that it is turning on.

To clarify, your low fuel light turned on today while your fuel guage read over ¼ tank. So you went to fill up and you were able to put 18 gallons of fuel into a 30 gallon tank, meaning you had approx. 12 gallons in the truck when the low fuel light came on, correct?

It's the next sentance that confuses me,

Do you mean that previously, when the low fuel light came on you could put in approx 25.5 gallons of fuel into your 30 gallon tank, meaning you had approx 4.5 gallons left in the truck?

To answer the very first question,

I can usually get about 23.5-24.5 gallons into my 27 gallon tank after the low fuel light comes on.

I haven't had any problems like that, I would think that there is something wrong with the sending unit in the tank. I would take it in and have it checked out.

I have the same problem. I live in Seattle where it has been in the 30-40 range. Lived in Dallas previously and it never happened there. I assume it is the cold.

FYI 1/4 tank would be 7 1/2 gallons left in the tank not 12....

I get 23.5-24.5 in my 27 gallon tank as well any time of the year when the light comes on.

I think your gauge is fubar!

its not just the cold weather... I've had my truck in sub-zero temps and never seen anything like that. I'd have your truck checked out.

As a reference... I usually have 3-4 gallons when my light comes on.

Hopefully its still under warranty.... I think its pretty time consuming (aka EXPENSIVE) to drop the tank and get to the fuel pump. But thats just based on what I've heard from others.

is your truck a flex fuel?? I have seen this in my shop but only with the flex fuel trucks - we have been replacing the fuel pumps and a new jummper harness (14407) is the base part number if your dealer ship has a hard time looking it up!!!!

What does the trip computer say as far as miles to empty? I saw that you have a King Ranch which should have the same cluster as my lariat.

My light came on the other day but I still had over 1/4 tank left. It was well below zero so I'm sure the freezing cold was the culprit.

I had the screen tell me "DTE 12miles" this past week.

I was less than 3 miles from a Shell.

Truck died!

Funny thing is, I've run it to "DTE 5miles" previously, when I pulled into a station, without an issue.

Go figure.

Fool me once, shame on you.....
