finally raced a lightning!

ive been waiting almost 2 years to have the chance to run along side a gen 2 ligtning and i finally got the chance yesterday

i did lose however, but i figured that i would. it was fairly close though. he got me off the line, and i spun like crazy(shoulda feathered the gas a little more) but after i got up to speed he wasnt really pull away anymore. i also had my towing tune installed so i gave some up there. at 70 mph he only had me by a truck length. i think if i hadnt spun so much and had my race tune in, it would have been almost neck and neck.

anyway, just thought id share

What mods, or lack thereof, did the Lightning have?

Well if you say you're only running a 15.3 I'm not surprised you lost to one. Most Lightning's I've seen at the track were running 13.8's or low 14's.

Still on the street you stand a better chance IMO.

Cool! A bit anxious on the pedal it sounds. I think they have a pill for that.

Spinning will kill you in a race, especially if the other guy isn't. It would have been nice to see what you would have done with him with a roll-on, say from 30 mph.

that 15.3 time and hp numbers were old when i just had the 6psi roush supercharger and on the 22's with 3.55 gears. i also had rear suspension issues causing my rear end to fly around on shifts and probably cost me time also. not to mention having O2 sensor and cam position sensor issues. so basically my truck was a mess back then. oh and i was also hitting the rev limiter on the dyno, so i dont know how accurate those numbers were...

since then i have added the flowmaster ehaust, troyer custom tuning and the 4.10 gears as well as tightening up the rear end and fixing all the other issues. the truck has also lost a little weight since then too. and i can definately feel a big performance increase. i would guess im more at around 350 rwhp now...

the lightning looked stock but definately had an aftermarket exhaust. other than that im not sure.

Smokin, your sig says you are getting a built block. Care to elaborate?

compression, boost, etc?

well its on hold for right now, i just bought a house and the truck seems to be running pretty good. it will definately be at some point though. im not planning anything crazy, forged rods and pistons, arp hardware stage 2 or 3 comp cams, stock heads, larger injectors new gaskets etc... ima also toying with the idea of just buying a JDM shortblock to avoid messing with that part of it.

i really want to add the roush intercooler, but i really dont feel like shelling out the 2k for it... i might also consider some water/meth injection. id probably start at 10-12 psi to keep it safe and bump it up later if i felt comfortable...

i have to buy the wife a new truck soon, so it may be another 2 years or so. but im not sure my motor is going to last that long, so it may come sooner than that.
