Holy Crepes - blown engine on a 2005!

Man, I just heard the most nightmarish news from the dealer - blown engine - with only 63k miles on it. He says the engine has no or low compression on 1-4 and that they don't really know why, just that it needs a new engine.

I have an f1-50 supercrew fx-4 that has had the oil religiously changed, all maintenance performed and babied. Can't imagine why an engine would just blow.

Heres what happened, I was on the freeway the other day and the engine started sputtering, and then hacking and coughing and I barely limped it off the freeway. Towed to the dealership since I was 120 miles from home.

Upon some basic research, my mechanic is telling me there is a TSB that involves low compression and that it may have to do with faulty plugs or injectors. I did have an injector assembly replaced at 30k under warranty

Anybody got any ideas?

Its too hard to say with out seeing it. I am really sorry for ya to hear about this tho. Big time bummer. When it dies and you limped it off the reeway, was there any big loud noises ? or just some sputtering ? feel any heavy clunks ? Smoke ? Color of the smoke ? and this is the 3v 5.4 right ?

And whats the plan for a fix ? Still covered under a warranty at all ? or are they asking you to shell out the full amount ?

Also, I would look a little more into the place that did the injector assembly. That may be the culprit.

Sounds like it's injector related, possibly hydro-locked.

Because you can't blow up a 4.6

If it's related to the injectors you might be able to get it covered under the extended warrenty that they just issued for the injectors on the 2005 5.4l.

no injector problems with the 4.6, that I know of. It's bull that Ford put out a letter knowing there is a problem like that, and only fixing if it fails.

A friend of mine just had an injector or two replaced on his 07 Scab, and he has the 4.6. It can happen to any fuel injected engine.

Sounds like an injector or four hung up and bent/broke some connecting rods. The dealer can do a related damages claim under the extended 07M08 injector coverage.

If you had an 05' 5.4 3v engine, what would you do about the injectors? Replace them all and pay out of pocket or ride it out and hope nothing fouls up? Just curious. My dealership said injectors aren't the easiest things to change and cost over a hundred bucks a piece.

Interesting reads. Injectors don't cost 100 bucks a piece either.

I'd drive it until the extended coverage warranty expires, then get rid of it.
