Truck Flow Through Console Help
Truck Flow Through Console Help
Im 18 and I am a senior in high school. Ive got a senior project coming up soon and I went all over my area asking every ford if a coulumn shifter could be replaced and made into a floor shifter. They said NO, i thought they might have been wrong because of all the awesome pictures that FX4andHARLEY posted. Now my only problem now is, I HAVE NEVER WORKED ON A TRUCK! Ive really always wanted to do this and now its a good excuse too. So here are my specs. Ive got a 2006 F150 4X4 Lariat extended cab, its stock with the coulumn shifter and I want to change it to the floor shifter. WHERE DO I START HAHA? I know you guys all have lives and I dont know where else to start but any feedback and/or help/walkthroughs would help me! If youd like to post it here thats fine or you can email me at Ryan_diaz@comcast.net... THANKS AGAIN! APPRECIATE ANYTHING!
Cheers!

Welcome to the site, there is a lot of good info here. Check out https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=6787 he also did the flow console shifter swap.
Just finished my conversion a week or so ago... It's awesome, but have to finish up the filler panel between the dash and the console... The hardest part was drilling out the floor to route the new shifter cable. If you need help, just post some questions! It's fairly easy if you order all the parts and have about a full day to devote to the project!
Well Ill be sure to ask questions and I have more a day to offer for it, now I just need to find out what to get? If anyone has any information on product list, or What EXACTLY i need to do this, that would be helpful. THANKS AGAIN!!! Cant wait to get started.

Yeah... I just wish I had the flow through console with a nice 6 speed manual tranny that is short throw that is narrow ratio.

But it sure would be an interesting mod.
I suppose I'd have to look at one next time I'm at a Ford dealer... if I see some potential... I might buy one. I dunno when... but I'd keep it in the back of my mind for future mods.
I did this swap in my previous '05 F150...I followed FX4&Harley's instructions to figure out how to do it. As far as a list of things you'll need goes...
1-scour ebay for a console..most likely will not include a shifter.
2-shifter cable..if I recall...there's a pic of a part # in FX4&Harley's gallery.
3-electrical quick connects...unless you choose to solder all connections
4-hole saw for drilling hole for shifter cable/grommet...very important!! make sure it is meant for cutting metal!!! Consult gallery for what size...I've since forgot what diameter hole you have to drill...I think it's around an inch give or take.
5-12 volt tester for verifying some of the wires that you will have to tap into.
6-steering column panel that covers the hole after you remove the column shifter.
There's some other stuff you'll need, but that should give you an idea where to get started. I felt that it wasn't really all that hard to do this mod...the hardest part was getting up the courage to drill that hole through my floorboard for the shifter cable. I definately suggest drilling the smallest possible hole first and shinning a light or sticking something through the hole and looking underneath the truck to see what might be in the vicinity before you go all out with a hole saw. You will also need to come up with a plan for filling in the gap between the console and the dash. I bought an extra console and cut out part of the sides to use to fill the gap...first I made cardboard templates so I'd know what shape to cut them. I ordered several parts for this mod through fordparts.com...but some items won't show up if you don't have the exact part #.
Here's a pic of the console installed, but without the gap filled in so you can get an idea of what it looks like. Click on the pic to make it bigger.....hope this helps.

Here's another pic...this is my current truck..'05 FX4 that has the floor shifter...you can see how the dash and console were tied together from the factory.
