anyone have paint peeling problems?

The paint on the bed around the gas filler neck keeps peeling. Had it fixed twice still does it. Just kinda bubbles up and starts peeling all the way around. Peels to bare metal. It will start down the side of the bed if I dont get it figured out. Never gets any gas spilled on it so it aint that.. anyone have this problem or know or remedy??

Only problem I've had is with the clear coat chipping around the bed where the caps contact the paint. I think the previous owner had a tonneau cover that overlaped the bed doing this. Also some clear coat chips around the gas cap where it rubbed over time. But no paint pealing like you describe.

If you need any bed liner sprayed I'd get that area done as well.

I blasted my paint off under my door with my 4000 psi pressure washer... but that was my fault... :o

But I do notice the clear coat on these trucks are relatively thin... or not applied correctly.

ether take it to the stealership or a shop. or take it back the people that fixed it for you the first time, they should fix it at no charge since they had already fixed it before...

one shop said before 2,000 to fix it. Had to paint the whole side of the truck. (only the inside not even 1/2" space around the gas filler is the problem.) so I'm apprehensive about that. The dealership did it under used car warrenty when the truck had 37,000miles. I bought it from a chevy dealer. It's out of fords warrenty. And obviously the chevy dealer can't paint cause it lasted two months. I am going to call them tomorrow though and tell them to fix it or I will bring the ford back to the chevy lot and all their trucks will run away in shame cause they dont know how to be a real truck, lol!!

check to see if your gas cap is leaking. it sounds like gas is eating away the clearcoat and paint.

I had a truck that would leak gas when I took hard right turns. I changed the gas cap out and the problem went away.

I think something has happened with the truck before you got it. My brother has done the warranty paint work for a local ford dealer for several years and he has never heard of this problem.

l called the previous owner who traded it in he said it started a year ago out of the blue. He was going to trade it anyway so he never brought it to ford. I didnt notice it when I bought it. Until the first fill up. Three body shops say it has never had any body work, as does carfax and the previous owners. It looks like it has no primer in that area.. must be a built in **** up. I dont know.

My truck just started doing the same thing, I've had it since it was new, its an 05 that just rolled over 50k miles. Never any paint work done to it before, but the paint around the gas door is just peeling off. Kinda sucks after taking such good care of this truck for the last three years and then seeing this happen. My '79 still has the original paint on it and its not peeling!
