Exclamation Computer Upgrade=power loss??

I had to get my truck towed to the stealership last night because i stopped real quick at a stop light and the truck started shaking violently. i get a call this morning saying that it just needs oil and a computer upgrade so i tell them go ahead and do it. well the knocking part is gone but now when i get on the gas it doesnt get up and go like it used to before.... would the computer upgrade effect this at all?

oo and the guy tells me i need to change the oil every 500 miles even though they didnt find a leak? that is like every 2 weeks... so does anyone have a clue about what might be going on with my truck?

did you have a custom tune that was erased?

when he says every 500 miles is that for the life of the truck or just for a month or so? if its for the life of the truck i would raise hell with them. thats alot of oil.

no, i dont have a programmer.

yes, he said since i have a high mileage truck(80,000) that i need to be changing it every 500-1000 miles. i just dont understand where the problem is if they didnt find a leak.

That doesn't pass the smell test. My 04 FX4 has 104k on it, and i change it every 3-4k miles.

I would say a quart every 2500-3000k miles is normal especially on a higher mileage truck but every 500 miles are they insane

They are feeding you a big old plate of BULL____ saying to change it every 500 miles because of the mileage. My work truck has over 160,000 miles and I change the oil every 5000 miles, it only uses about 1/4 of a quart in that time.

Just change the oil every 3000 miles, and check it every 500.

I check my oil every 10th time I start the truck. Takes like two seconds.

In fact, I check PS, Oil, Coolant and the dreaded washer fluid.

You don't think he meant/said "check" the oil every 500-1000 miles and top up as necessary, instead of change it?

The power loss might be due to the fact that they reset the computer by removing the battery cables and by doing the update. Drive it around for a while, then report back here and to the dealer.

I highly doubt they told you to change the oil every 500 miles. They most likely mean to check it every 500 miles... which is about every other fill up.. so it's not that hard.

Beat me to it. I think that checking the oil level would be a good idea every 500 miles, because I know many people that do not even think about it until the next change.

im not retarded... he said CHANGE because i was like waitt whatt??? then he repeated himself and said yes change it every 500-1000 miles. there would be no need for this topic if he told me to CHECK it.

but i have to take it back in to get the cam phasers replaced on monday so ill talk to some other mechanics.

Go to a new dealer.

Wrong. When the battery is disconnected and the PCM is reset, the learning process starts all over again and will allow the truck to run it's best.

What Thump said. The new program reset the Engine Management System. The parameters will be established after a few miles of operation.

The mechanic who told you to change your crankcase oil every 500 miles is flat out lying. Give me his telephone number and I will call him myself and tell him so. Now if some type of internal engine repairs were done, I could see an oil change after the first 500 miles but other than that he is full of crap.
