Anyone changed their U-Joint??
another update...
spoke w/ accu auto parts (1800-869-7030) and they did not have an u-joints that fit the 05 models.
The guy (Jerry) mentioned that this driveshaft was listed as unservicable and if the u-joints wore out, the whole driveshaft needed replacing.
He referred me to a place called Six States Distributors (Dwayne @ 1-800-453-5703), apparently they are the only ones that have a kit that fits the 05 f150 for the rear 1 piece driveshafts.
The price on those U-Joints is $85.47 each and they come with some special spacer or retainer...
If in fact this is true, it's pretty disurbing that a fix that would usually cost about 50 bucks will turn into a whole new driveshaft.

guess i gotta keep lookin....

This is a VERY disturbing fact... I've got a 2-piece, and if I can't change the u-joints, I'm F'ed. I don't got $800 for a totally new driveshaft... and that's stupid to throw away a good driveshaft because of worn u-joints.
Ticks me off that my u-joints on my Dakota only cost $12 and some change...

got that right.
I have the Hanes manual and they have step by step instructions on how to change the U-joint on the new body style...hmmm...could it be possible that the part # just isn't listed correctly and that a U-Joint is somewhere out there?
code58 mentioned the heritage model for the 2004, wont fit either and he's right. on advance auto they specify the wheelbase for each u joint and none of those matched w/ the 2005 wheelbase..not sure what that has to do with anything.
I'm starting to give up on my research, this is all I did at work today. Does anyone else have any information or prior experience with this?
PLease contribute if you have anything.

Do you have any GOOD driveshaft shops in your area? I'm from So. Ca. and we have some exellent ones in this area and they can work magic with driveshafts. It's been a while since I've had to have any d'shaft work done but when I last did (had one built) it was what I would call very reasonable. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

For the ones that have a 2 wheel drive F-150 with a two piece drive shaft I had to replace one of my u-joints already about a year and a half ago on an 04 model and it cost me $300 for just one of those p.o.s u-joints from the dealer so next time I need to replace one Im goin to get one made that will fit the $20 u-joints and I have a feeling its goin to be soon. So I know how you feel
Changed u joints
I have an 04 F150 Extra cab w/6.6 bed.
I just changed the front u joint.
I went to change the u joints and found out 04-09 F150's that have no snap rings have what they are calling "Visteon staked in" u joints.
You can go online to the Neapco u joint website and read about the joints.
You can order them online from Kragens for $65+ any shipping & tax.
The part # is neapco 3-0488 it comes with a reamer tool to remove the staked part of the drive shaft and snap rings and shims and instructions.
