Gear Oil for Front Axle???

My dads '07 had a leak on the axle tube on the front. No big deal. Took it in and warrany right on it. Repalced a seal or something. But then, they re-filled the front axle with 75W140 synthetic. Same thing as the rear axle. Even though the book says 80W90. Dad called them out on it but they said this is an update and this is the new standard for what they are putting in the front axle if it requires oil. Didn't show a service bulliten or anything. They obviously said they'd stand behind it if anything negative happened.

Anyone heard of this?? I don't think it's a big deal, just curious.

Have not heard anything about and updated lube, but if they will stick to it, fine.

your dad should be thanking them for putting that in. the only reason its not usually done is because its a damn expensive oil. when it comes time for me to change the oil in my front diff its also getting full syn 75w140.
