play mp3's off usb flash drive???

Is there any way to get the stock radio in a 2005 Fx4 to play mp3's off a usb flash drive?

I guess I'm looking for a way to mount a usb port in the dash by the the ashtray, then plug in my 4 gig usb flash drive and be able to play the songs off it using the radio. Is there a kit you can buy? Has anyone looked into this or can suggest anything?

They sell a adapter at Walmart. It plugs into your Cigarette Lighter and has a usb port and a fm transmitter built in. It's $30.

Now i know that a certain brand (cannot remember, consult crutchfield if interested) makes an aftermarket headunit with a built in USB port but it only accepts UPTO 1gb jumpdrives.

The short answer is no. None of the stock head units offers a USB connection.

No. As far as I know, the inputs into the head unit are purely audio (analog). There is no digital input and digital/analog decoder to support a USB or SD card.

I just use an MP3 player (with SD card) and connect to the auxillary input. SD cards are far more versitile than USB drives and a better investment. If one needs a USB, just use an SD/USB card adapter (a USB thumb drive that you plug SD cards into).

Coby has several FM transmitters and MP3 decoders that work surprisingly well. I was really surprised at the sound these modern FM transmitters offer.

I can do something similar through my XM SkyFi 3 connected with a PIE input. This allows me to play MP3s from an SD card.

I have an aux button on the front of the radio. I thought maybe I could hook something up using that. I don't know too much about radios so I'm not sure. I know it can't be a direct connection to the radio. I would have to buy or rig something that would take the mp3 and output it just like a cd changer would to the radio.

Plays through your radio. Tune the transmitter to a certain station and then the radio to that station and you have tunes! Not sure how well it works though as I have not tried it.

Search around and see if they make something like this but for Fords.

What year is your truck. The 04-06s used the AUX for the rear DVD player option. You can get the PIE Input Adaptor that will plug into this harness and give you two RCA jacks to plug whatever you want in. That is how I have my XM radio/MP3 player hooked up. The 07s should have a 1/8th input plug on top of the dash.
