Synthetic oil is a better oil, plain and simple. I know people over 60 that eat fattening foods and never workout, but I would by no means reccomend that lifestyle to others. Just because it works doesnt mean it is the best option

 

There isn't really an extra expense because on synthetic oil you can go twice as long which means you will change your oil 2 times to 1 synthetic oil change.

 

Except the longer you run any oil the greater the amount of oil breakdown, so are you really saving or exposing your engine to unnecessary wear?

Yes synthetic is better but at the same time for a lot of people it is overkill and not worth the extra $. Don't think anyone is arguing that point.

 

This is true, the Motorcraft blend everyone suggested 3k and that was about a $34 oil change. Synthetic the mechanic told me go 5k and I paid $54 so Its a bit cheaper, plus I dont have to get my oil changed as often. So I save money, save time & have a better oil

 

For one before trying to go twice as long you should have the oil tested to see how it is holding up. Also I've noticed a lot of people on here that run synthetic but still change at 3k miles which in most case overkill. Also make sure you put in a high end filter such as K&N for the extended OCI.

 

For me the money wouldn't make since. I change my own oil using a M-craft for about $21-$22. For M1 it would run me about $41. So either way it is about the same price if I went 6k miles between changes.

True but you get more time to relax instead of screwing with the truck

 

Hell my brother has been know to go 20k miles on the cheapest oil he can find and his Yukon still runs good, but I wouldn't recommend it. I think half the price of mobil 1 is due to the advertising they do.

 

But it gives me a exuse to give the wife why I need to spend time in the garage drink beer. Also I don't mind changing the oil it gives me a chance to check things out, I usually never look at the mechanical side of the truck unless I'm changing oil.

 

Hard to argue with that

 

I do 10,000 km (6250 mile) oil changes with the ford oil on my truck. I end up changing the oil about every 4-6 weeks in the summer time.

 

 

The trucks are built and tested to start at -40deg with the factory rec'd oil.
