To buy or not to buy please help!!!!!

This is my dilemia sorry for all of the spelling mistakes I'm sure I will make. I have an 05 f-150 fx4 I have 34k on it and leased it for 39 months well the lease is coming up in july and I'm dabating wether or not to buy it off lease the payoff is 19K. I was thinking off either buying this truck or an 08 fx2 because I have never put the truck in 4x4 it was a complete waste of money. Also the truck has been maintained very well by me and is in pretty good shape however I started having issues with my tranny a little over a month ago I had it at the dealer for over a week and they said they could duplicate the problem but not fix it they said they ripped the hole thing apart and had no idea what was wrong so that has me worried what do you guys think I should do? Also the tranny problem I'm having when I'm at WOT when shifting from first to second it makes a loud sqeualing noise and feels like it slips. Anyone have this problem I know I'm asking like 5 questions here so help me out thanks

$19K is a lot of money to spend on a used truck with transmission problems.

Just spend the money and buy or lease a new truck without transmission problems.

the squealing comes from your pullies, all trucks do this at WOT on the 1-2 shift.. Mines at 79k custom tuned with performance mods with a brand new tranny but stock pullies and still does it, just get used to it, it doesn't hurt anything. The slip is just the stock tune hesitating. Get it custom tuned, it will work wonders for your tranny.

Keep the 4x4, as the saying goes, its better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it...

You've got 2 hits toward finding a new FX2. The tranny issue alone suggests you should move on to a new truck. And since you've not used your 4 wheel drive in 39 months, you clearly have no need for it. Go get yourself a good deal on the FX2 and don't look back.

The person who buys your old truck may have an interesting go at it with the 4 wheel drive system. Wonder if it still goes in and out of 4 wheel with no issues. (not suggesting you try it before trading it, as you may end up needing to repair something)

Post pics of your new truck!

Thanks guys the 4x4 does work i accidently put it in 4x4 the other day and it still works. I've heard other people having the same problem with the squealing noise when shifting 1 to 2 so I might get the tune for the slip. My buddy has an 07 fx2 and I really like it but I dont think I could find my same truck and everything for 19K so I still have some thinking to do.

I can not figure out why anybody who does not do any off roading would want a 4x4 in Sunny Fla.....when ever I am there, I see all these 4x4's & say to myself.... These people probably never even go off road....& they will surely never see any snow covered roads.......

Agreed, especially with the tranny problems.

I have an FX2 & love it!!! Especially now that it is whipple blown, and makes pretty good power for its current configuration... If it makes you feel any better I'll be faced with the same situation since I leased this one too, but I think I will keep it since I have dumped ~$10k total in mods...

Get a new FX2 would be your best bet since you haven't used the 4x4 on the current truck you drive.

Agree with others in Fl, why would you need 4x4 unless you live in the swamp - oh wait half the state is swamp....

Seriosly. if you are on pavement all day and dont tow a boat up a boat rampe...get a 2wd. You will save 2 mpg. Up here in MN I keep her in 4x4 for days on end. Just drove across a 1000 acre lake with 12" of snow on top of it today. 2 wd is useless here. Towed 4 cars up hills/out of ditches yesterday alone. Got tired of those idiots so I stopped. but you are in sunnyh warm FL. Get a 2wd..just dont get stuck in sand on Datona beech!
