RP....I snooped and looked at the photos of your trucks....looks great ...one question...when did you get the opener for your ARE lid? Was it at the time of purchase?? or later?? does it work as well as a trunk opener... I'd really like to get one for my truck....thanks

PM would've been quicker...

I just troll, more or less, and I missed this one... plus, I've been out and about with family items for the holidays...

Anyway -- that was installed at the time of purchase. Actually, ARE had a coupon on their site that got that and the installation (with the purchase of the LSII lid) for free.

It's been a slight pain in the rump but, only when it's been bitter cold. It's tied to the lock/unlock system with the keyfob so, I lock the truck and, by theory, the lid locks.

Hope that helps. PM me if you have other questions! LOL! Thanks for the kudos!

How bright is that light under the cover, Rock? What brand is it?

Is it the vehicle's 12volt that powers it or internal battery operated? Where's the wire run if it's the vehicle's 12volt supply?

Where's the gap grille instert from? How much?

Hmm... not sure how to answer that one considering that I wasn't talking about a light.

I don't have a light under my lid -- I do, however, have LED strips under the lip of the bed all wired into a switch that does *exactly* what I need it to do (i.e.: throw a little light into the bed when you can't see a thing).

The Gap insert is a thing of the past. I don't believe that the item exists any longer (I need a replacement as a rock put a hole in mine ). The company was Abbett Effects (or similar spelling). If memory serves me correctly, they were in Jasper, Indiana.

Huh?

The pic at the link below is from your gallery -

... that's what I was asking about.

Nevermind, the "description" in the pic is self explanatory.

But it says it's an Astro Platinum... not an ARE.

Huh?

Ahh... That was my 2001 King Ranch... I'm driving a 2005 King Ranch now...

The Astro... That thing was junk. I really wish I wouldn't have put it on that truck. While it looks good from a distance, the quality was VERY poor. Screws protruded from the top (beneath the final fiberglass layer) into the bed area (through the carpeting). The fiberglass was *very* wavvy (I know it's tough to lay down perfectly smooth fiberglass but this was LOUSY!). The seals were poor and it definitely collected moisture... I could go on.

The paint color was a dead-on match and it did look good from a distance but, other than that, it was about 1K down the drain.

Oh yeah... the light. It was powered by two C-cell batteries I think. Lack-luster lighting at best...
