I just installed one of these in a friend's '07 Nissan Frontier. I also installed the GPS and the bluetooth using the IP-BUS.

I didn't even hook up those wires... not because I didn't want to... but because he wanted to play DVDs while driving. I know it's illegal in NY and most other states, but his father is a cop, so he can get away with it.

I might get a d3 for mine, but I kind of like the current deck I've got... we'll see.

Oh, and if you did get the bluetooth adapter, it doesn't like Verizon Wireless phones too well, as the address book won't sync up at all. Not to mention it has a hard time staying connected to the phone.

Again, as whenever I install a deck, I always solder and shrink tube the wires, unlike 99% of the places do. Let's put it this way, I impressed the crap out of my friend when he saw how neat and organized I had it setup behind his dash.

go to avic-411.com and search. i have asked these questions exactly on there so you will find what you need. you can hook this up(and should) and still watch dvds while driving if you do the correct bypass. good luck!

also, how did you guys physicaly mount this unit? did you remove the mounting hardware from the old hu or does the dash kit include a way to mount? and then sorry for the million questions, but for those of you who have done the bypass that is on avic411, once you move the mute wire, where does that get hooked into(just the mute wire spot from the ford wiring), and then just ground the parking break wire, or do you ground both wires?

im actually in the process of taking apart my truck now to dynamat it. I have the avicd3. ill go look where i tapped one of the wires. i think one taps and the other one grounds. (pink and purple wires)

edit:
tap the purple wire into the black with the pink stripe in your door sill

i think the other wire is grounded but not sure. i could figure it out tomorrow when i take apart my dash but if you need it now do a search. i asked teh same questions when i installed mine

the pink wire goes to the gray/black wire in the factory ford harness....the harness that you plug your aftermarket harness into

alright i think my last question.... the book says to remove the mounting hardware off the old radio and screw it onto the sides of the d3.... how do you remove the old hardware, or is there something better to do?

i think that simply means use the same 4 small bolts that held the factory radio in to bolt your d3 into place.

mine is held in by the same 4 bolts that held the factory radio in.

side mounts you will have to fabricate yourself

What GPS did you install using the IP-BUS wire? The D3 has built in GPS???

As for the speed sensor....it has ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with playing DVDs while driving. Its for navigational dead reckoning. I have my speed sensor wire hooked up and can play DVDs all day going down the road. Go to avic411.com and follow the very simple directions for the bypass. Infact I would be very interested in knowing how you got it to play DVDs while driving without following the bypass instructions.

Now back on the subject....athill, what year is your truck? 2008s and up are different, but if you have a 07 or older you should be able to tab into the SSW at the radios harness...I BELIEVE its a grey/black wire but would recommend checking at avic411.com to be sure. On my 08 Super Duty I had to tap into the wire in the engine bay and have pics and directions for it, but I doubt that would help you.

As far as physicaly mounting it, you will need a double DIN adapter kit for your truck to fill in the area around your D3 and the plastic trim piece. If you dont get the adapter you will have a gap there.

Sorry, I combined it all in one sentence.

The navigation is built in, but I was talking about the Bluetooth Handsfree using the IP-BUS... he's planning to get the Multi-CD changer for it too this week... gotta take it apart again because I put the bluetooth blackbox inside of the dash just below the radio and ran the microphone wire up along the pillars and mounted it above his rearview mirror, and the CD changer plugs into the bluetooth box. It's daisy chained.

I can warn you about the plastic trim piece though... it will still leave you with a 1mm gap all the way around the radio. But I'm sure you can deal with it.

Well, I didn't attach the parking brake wire, VSS wire, etc and the HU works fine. It still plays DVDs while he can drive.

As long as he's happy, I suppose that's all that matters.

Wow, that adapter is like 100X better than the one my friend gave me when he wanted his installed... interesting.

But, it looks awesome! I was impressed with how his worked... I'm sure you will be just as happy.
