Manual Hubs??
Manual Hubs??
Has anyone tried or converted to manual locking warn hubs on the 04-07 style trucks? I am tired of having issues with the automatic locking hubs on my truck. What would be involved in the parts and install? Thanks.

I read your post...the sounds are similar, only mine happened while I was in sand and my front end came up onto harder dirt, while the rear was still in sand, and therefore the front hubs gave way....from what it sounded like.
This is the second time i've used the 4x4 since they replaced it three months ago and it was the same sound as before. I am going to see what Ford says, but I am not going to deal with this issue every three months.

I'm glad I got a 2 wheel drive.
I never liked automatic 4x4's... my Escape even gave me issues. Before that my parents had a slew of automatic 4x4's.
1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer - Auto locking hubs, the solenoid always got stuck in the lock position if used. Only way to unlock was spinning the tires on a slippery surface.
1996 Explorer XLT - Auto locking hubs, randomly decided to lock on themselves and it would cause front end noises and steering havoc.
2003 Escape XLT - Rear transfer case to lock the rear wheels ground up the spider gears, found out a solenoid got stuck 1/2 way and it was still applying power to the rear wheels.
1992 F-250 XL - Manual locking hubs - NEVER A PROBLEM! I wish my Dad still had this truck... it had 2 LO.

I put it in 4wheel before I need it too, and it still does it. Looks like Ford hasn't quite figured this out yet. I really want to get manual hubs, so anyone with information on this conversion please help me!! Thanks in advance.
