Time for brakes. Questions...
I think it's about time for new brakes. I'm sick of the dust and the stopping power has faded a little in recent months.
I have a friend that will do the work for me, I just need to pick up the pads.
I'm between the Wagner Thermo Quiets and the CarQuest Blue, both semi-metalic. Anybody prefer one over the other, or are they both good pads? Or does anyone reccomend anything else? I just want something quiet and with as little dust as possible.
And also, are these something that my local auto parts store will stock? Should I be able to go into AutoZone and get these? And about what should I expect to spend?
And finally, I shouldn't need to have the rotors machined, shoud I? I don't get any vibration when I hit the pedal and the truck only has 28K miles.

Both the brands you mention have received good marks from those who use them. I put on Akebono ceramics, and am extremely pleased. NO DUST! GREAT STOPPING POWER! NO FADE! and various other late-night infomercial adjectives. I believe they are available at the auto stores you mentioned (Wagners might come from NAPA).
Seriously, it was the best mod I've done...the stock pad and their dust just pizzed me off.
You should not have to turn your rotors at such low mileage. Once you slap these puppies on, you'll be glad you did!

I'm in the same boat, but with 30k miles. Getting new wheels soon and I'd like to avoid the excessive dust. I was just going to do the swap myself, but I don't know if the rotors need turning or replacing. No issues with the current setup, except the dust.

Does AutoZone carry the CarQuest pads? I don't want to look like an idiot when I go in there. lol.

I am either getting the CarQuest blues or the ThermoQuiets, but now I need to know WHERE to get them? Who carries them?
The auto parts stores around me are:
Auto Zone
Advance
CarQuest - never knew it was there until I went to their website.
I think we have a NAPA
So where should I go to get either brakes? I need them by Saturday morning, so I don't have time to order them. I just want to go pick them up somewhere.
Thanks.

Replaced my OEM front pads with the Carquest Blue's and turned the rotors last September. Thoroughly satisfied with their performance and very low dust accumulation on the wheels. The dust I get is very light and hardly noticable at all even after a week of driving. Looks very much like the rears which were for the most part very clean.
I purchased mine at the local Carquest Auto parts store.

man...it's not that difficult. Just simply call those different stores you listed and ask them if they have the pads or not. and ask them their price too and that will save you (gas) from driving store to store to find the pads.
Picked up my Wagner ThermoQuiets from O'Reilly Auto Parts. I think I paid $49/set for the front and rears. They were in stock.
They've been on for about 2 months and I'm pleased with them so far. Much less brake dust than the stockers. I mounted the 35's the same day, so I can't comment on how much better they stop than the stockers would have. But they stop well enough.
