What is this part/piece?

First of all I have a NBS 2004 f150. What is the name of the black plastic piece that is between the hood and the windshield? Mine has gotten really faded and i want to get a new one and get it PTMed. What is the part number? Is it easy to remove and re-install a new one? Can it be painted? Thanks Alot!

I believe it's called the wiper cowl. And, with enough money, brains, and talent... you can do ANYTHING.

There's this stuff called Black Again gel that I put on my wiper cowl and it looked just like new. Mine was pretty faded to a dark gray too now it looks great. Well not right now with all the muck but you know what I mean.

here's a general link. shop around you might find it cheaper.

Not to go too off topic or try to steal a thread, but why do the cowls have all the grooves and stuff in them instead of being smooth from the factory? Is it to help break up the ice near the wipers when defrosting?

Its called a cowl grille. It comes in left and right. I purchased them from www.ford-parts.com for about 62.02 bucks each side. The local "Stealer" wanted 100.00 each. I don't have the part numbers, but here is a link to what you are looking for. This is the best price I found so far, when I was searching. good luck. I tried posting the link directly to the parts but it's not working. Under search, type in cowl.

I believed it was to get water to drain as much as possible before it hit the windshield. Wipers push some of the water down into the cowl.

Air is pulled through to your heater and defroster through them.

this stuff is supposed to be awesome. the guys over in the detailing section have used it and it's a permanent dye, not a temporary cover up.

do a search in the detailing forum for more info.
