Beaters are out there and you can get a decent one for cheap. Bought a 1990 Mustang notchback for $900 with 116k miles on it, no rust, straight body and only 2 owners. I get 26-27mpg in it with mixed driving. I plan on making this my drag car in the near future, but until then, it's a daily beater for me. Just have to keep your eyes open.

ok well just saw this thread...
Yea dont think that the beater idea has not been thought through because it has been beaten to death by me and my wife. Thing is that the amount of gas I will be saving actually does come into play (about $200/mo) but thats not the main reason at all. As my bro had mentioned we are moving to a much larger house (from a 1000 sqft home to 3400) and me and my wife will be having kids in the very near future so the truck payment needs to go. So basically its $700/mo that will be going into savings/kids for awhile since I dont want to stretch myself out financially either. This wasnt a decision I made overnight either since I have been going over and over this for a few months now. btw as alot of you know plans change and thats the case here as the plans were waaay different when I bought/started modding my truck.
In any case it would be nice to see this go to someone on these boards since I know it will be taken care of but I will not let it go for any less than $32k. Most of you know the mods and there is only just under 14k mi on it.
Anyone that knows me even a little bit knows that im not done in the modding world but for now family comes first. The next project wont be a daily driver though and more than likely will be an '87-93 notch with a GT500 crate motor but not anytime soon.

But then again, the wife is probably a much better "blower" than the truck....
j/k... Like you said, priorities change.
I had a small car (1991 ford probe gt) for many years while being married with 2 kids before I came to the realization I needed a truck. I had to adjust my priorities accordingly too, only the opposite way. Trut me, it sucks having a small car with a family.
