Oil pressure

I live in North Dakota where the past two weeks it hasnt gotten passed 10 above and i havent drove my truck in two weeks. Its a 2004 ford f150 5.4 with 58000 miles. So i went out to start it today. battery dead. big deal. jumped it and worked fine. but then i let it warm up and i come out the the low oil pressure light. so now what do you guys think i should do?

Change your oil and use 0w-20 for your climate conditions.

A tip I picked up from my grandfather ...

a 60w bulb in a work light placed under your hood (where it won't melt anything of course) will produce enough heat to keep your battery and valve train from freezing overnight.

However, if your low oil light was on after you were warmed up then I would suggest checking your oil level. May have nothing to do with the cold.

Hard to say at this point how screwed or not you may be. May have just been valve train clatter, or something worse.

Was the idle speed OK / normal?
Oil level normal?
Did the oil pressure light go off as engine RPMs increased?

Low oil pressure light and a loud knocking? Sounds to me as if your rod bearings were starved for lubrication, not good! Did the oil pressure ever come up? Did you check the level? What oil and viscosity are you using?

Sorry but this is a lil off topic. I always thought the oil pressure guage in our trucks was basically like a dummy light, but it's not.
In the past when I've put exactly the spec'd amount of oil in the engine, the guage always showed JUST above the medium mark. It never fluctuated. Last oil change I landed up putting in a little more oil than it calls for. It was an accident, but nothing to worry about or rectify. Instead of being at dead center on the dipstick in the cross hatched area, it's now just shy of the full mark. No biggie, but, the needle on my oil pressure guage now indicates about another 1/8th above being where it usually sat at JUST above medium.

Just an FYI.

I wish it would show the oil PSI...

My Dakota has it and it is useful for keeping a check on things.
