all of a sudden my compass gauge is going crazy....

itll say sw then se then s then e then w and keeps switching back and forth all of the sudden. then a few times it said circle to calibrate and then calibration complete. it said that like 5 times. i have the edge which i have been running with no problems but jsut to ensure it wasn't that i swapped back to stock. it did the same thing so i went back to lvl 2 with my custom settings. i did have the top of my windshield tinted today tho...(just the strip) i dont know if that has anything to do with it b/c im not sure where the compass actually is located in the truck. any help would be appreciated. thanks

you have to hold down the button to go into calibration mode, then do 3 full circles.

Mine usually freaks out when I disconnect power to the body, the power that is always supposed to be connected.

Patman is talking about the trip/reset button on the ododmeter I think.

I would bet its the window tint. The compass module is located on the back of the rearview mirow. I believe a lot of tint contains a thin metal film in it to reflect sunlight. If it just started doing it after the tint job thats probably it. Just a thought...

Guess if it were mine I would try that first and see if it checks out. They may tell you the tint strip has to go or use another kind of tint.

You just got your windows tinted correct? And they did the front windshield. I know exactly what happened because it happened to me also.

They used soapy water to help the tint stick to the windshield, and in the process of doing that some of the soapy water went into the compass housing right below the rear view mirror. The bottom will pop off and you can get to the circuit board and dry off the contacts. That's what worked for me, and I've yet to have any more issues. If the board is fried show the tint shop what happened and let them replace it.

I believe mine was $30, but I also got the front side windows tinted as well. The only reason I had them tint the strip on the windshield is that no windshields come tinted from the factory anymore. I was driving East every morning and the sun would always be in my eyes right where there should have been tint. Now I need a new windshield, but don't want to replace that because Ford might be buying my truck back after my lemon law settlement.
