Gotta love Mobil 1 !!

Not to start an oil war again or anything but here's why I use Mobil 1. These are two pics of my engine last week getting the clicky lifters replaced. Turns out the cam phasers were ok and its much much quieter now. I'd say the motor looks pretty clean huh? It has 30500 miles on it and has only had 3k mile oil changes with M1 5W20 and Motorcraft filters. I plan to keep this one a while and from the looks of it it should run indefinitely!

I have a Ford Ranger V6 with 200,000 miles on it and have used Mobil 1 synthetic since after break-in. Other than a water pump the engine has never needed any parts. It still runs strong and uses very little oil between changes.

It would look just as good with conventional oil. Synthetics won't keep it cleaner, they're just better and reducing wear. Regular oil & filter changes is what keeps it clean.

Not so sure about that Tbird. I've seen several of the same motor in the shop for the same repair. Motorcraft oil at 3k intervals done by us and the engine has a noticable brown film all over everything. Not sludge but a definite brown coating on the valvetrain and heads. Mine looks as if its never been run.

I have been using Mobil 1 exclusively in my 2007 SCREW since it's first oil change at 3k, I noticed immediately how much quieter the 5.4 3v became after switching, especially on a cold start. I change it usually between 3500-4000mi. My last vehicle a Cadillac CTS, came with Mobil 1 from the factory, as it stated on the oil fill cap. I have used Mobil 1 since I learned about it from my College job, running a Mobil Gas Station in the early 1980's. When they were the only synthetic around. I have used it in all of my vehicles & Motorcycles since.........I have never suffered a lubrication related engine failure yet.........Heck, if its good enough for NASA & the Military...NASCAR, it's good enough for me...........

Last one. The lifters in these motors are wild looking. They're about the size of a 22 cal long rifle cartridge and cost about 3.85 apiece.

I just replaced the intake manifold gasket on the 5.8L in my '91. I have used Mobil 1 since I got it with 80K and it now has 113K. The lifter valley was very clean and the cam lobes looked great. I have seen motors with almost half the mileage that were full of sludge. I am sure it has more to do with religiously changing the oil than it being Mobil 1 but I was impressed none the less.

it's definitely clean, but i agree that with only 30k on the engine, 3k oci with any oil will have very similar results

I've had the valve covers off of several of my vehicles with over 140,000 miles on them (leaky valve cover gaskets) and they looked exactly like yours. That is with conventional oil and 5,000 mile oil changes.

If the rest of the car wears out before the engine and I use conventional oil, what is gained by using a synthetic oil? MOst of my old cars go to the junk yard (long after I have sold them) due to accident or transmission failure.

Just curious what folks think about Royal Purple. I can get a much better deal on RP than I can on M1 and was thiking of moving to it on the next change.

Nothing really. You just have more money in your pocket for a down payment on a new car!

Why so frequently with Mobil 1? Unless your pulling or driving the crap out of them that oil lasts much longer than that. Seems like money down the drain.

It probably is but it makes me feel better and the results speak for themselves. I would rather over maintain one than ride it like a rented mule like some people do.

To the naked eye probably, but synthetic oils do have superior cleaning capabilities. Doubt any of us would notice it. I use Mobil 1 every 5k, have used it on my last 3 vehicles and have never had engine problems. Im my Dakota I ran 10k intervals
