It only covers the 2005 models Not the 2004

Finally got the Expedition back today. It has been in the shop since 12/28. They initially found 3 injectors stuck open and replaced those. Then found engine damage and replaced the short block assembly, 2 spark plugs and timing chain tensioner. Apparently had a damaged rod and cylinder damage. Then found catalytic converter was plugged on left side and replaced that. After all that work, it seems to be running great now. I went ahead and paid to have the other 5 injectors replaced because we drive about 20,000 miles/year and did not want something like this to happen on a road trip. I figure if the problem occurs over time due to degradation, then failure could occur again in the others and would probably happen at the least desirable time. The replacement injector part number was 5C3Z-9F593-DC. I don't know if this is the same part number as the original or a later design. Hopefully it is a design that won't have the same problem. All of the cost was covered by Ford under the warranty extension except the 5 good injectors I requested be replaced.

I've had an issue with the motor stumbling under accel and backfiring.

It's in the shop currently for:

5 injectors,
at least 3 coil packs
3 spark plugs
2 broken spark plugs
RR of the heads for the broken plugs

If i'm not mistaken RR of the head actually means pulling the whole motor on one of these....

WAY TO GO FORD

It's a 2005 F150 Lariat. 30,000 miles and I've had issues with this for the last 5k...

I'll do a full posting about symptoms, etc.

07M08 and P2004 OBD2 code ???

I just took my truck in for the 07M08 customer satisfaction program. Of course I am concerned they will advise I am not covered. I am always suspicious when they immediately focused on how I found out about this and then they started to come up with excuses why its already not my issue and not part of the program.
My issues seem similar, rough running particularly on acceleration and a lag on acceleration. Idling is also rough but not all the time; i would say most of the time.

Can anyone advise if they believe an OBD2 code of "P2004 - Intake manifold Runner control stuck open bank 1" would be part of this injector issue?
I will keep you posted on the outcome.

07M08 and P2004 OBD2 code ???

Well, they said all the injectors are fine and the issue is exactly what the code indicated. Would a service department put the parts back together and then call me or would they not call me prior to that to see if I wanted the work done and save them on assembly reassembly time? Or am i just too suspicious.

I'm having the same problems in my '05 F150 lariat 5.4L, and I called the local Ford dealership, and they told me that there is "no open recall" on my truck. Is there anything I can do other than to go pay for everything myself?

I was hoping that the customer satisfaction program would cover my issue but apparently its not related. If you have the same error code that I did you may be out of luck. I was hoping someone received service on this because it was related. If you don't know the error code you may be able to take it in and quote the 07M08 customer satisfaction warranty extension. You may just have an injector issue and if so they should cover you.

Cat Converter - Injector PROBLEMS

We have replaced the cat converter THREE TIMES on our (purchased new) 2003 Ford Expedition, the last time was Nov 2005. The check engine light came on AGAIN and we were told the diagnostic showed that the cat is bad AGAIN.

The Ford dealer asked if we noticed sluggish starts and said it might be bad injectors -that some of the injectors were bad on these Expeditions and F-150s and had been recalled. If the injectors were faulty, they could be causing recurrent damage to the cat converters.

Can't they tell if the injectors are faulty (i.e. recalled ones)??? What else would cause a cat converter to go bad four times on a six year old truck?? We have over 120,000 miles on it so I don't know that Ford would pay for it anyway. But at the price of $1,200 to replace, this is getting crazy!

Anyone else know of this problem? I would appreciate any ideas! Thanks in advance!!

Would this make the engine oil have a gas smell to it if the injectors are stuck open?

2006 F150 Runs OK, but REALLY lags under acceleration. (?)

I had a TON of trouble with my 5.4 when I first bought it. Back to the dealer 3 times in the first TWO MONTHS. They changed/replaced the coils (one, then another, finally two) and finally it ran great. Still does run great (kinda....). However, if I floor it, it lags really bad, almost like it wants to shut down. If I accel gradualy, it is OK, but if I slam the accelerator down, needing to pass in a hurry, look out. Feels kinda like a carburator would feel when "loading up". (Think this is injectors, or more of the darn coil problem??) Might it leave me stranded because of this????

Does not bother me too much, as I seldom have to floor it, but I stopped by the Ford dealer yesterday and mentioned it. I am retired and I travel a lot (85K on the 06') and dont want this thing to leave me stranded one day. The service writer told me of this recall, and I am taking it in Monday. She said it would be at no charge. Sounds good. I found out it is a 2 day job (that sucks), so they dont furnish loaners. Rent a car for a day or two is not biggie. Gene

Alright, bringing it back from the dead! SCgene- Did they determine that the lag when accelerating was due to this or just a slow downshift on your tranny? Mine feels very sluggish and I just assumed it was a lagging downshift.

I have a 2007 f150 with 70,000 miles on it. The other day it started running bad soundedl iek it was running on 7 cylinders. Smelt like gas real bad and didnt wanna start. When it finally started it ran real rough and wouldnt go anywhere. Brought it to my friends shop and they found the cylinder 1 injector was stuck open and ended up basically filling cylinder 1 with fuel and bent my rod. Wish they had the recall for the 07 to. Just gave me a reason to put cams and new pistons in it while the motors out of the truck.

It's too bad that this recall doesn't cover 2006 F-150’s, but you would think it would since it was AFTER the recall notice. I just paid $800 to have 3 of my fuel injectors replaced because of this exact same thing.
And after reading this string I noticed they did my oil change BEFORE they did the diagnostics and repair on my fuel injectors instead of AFTER. I'll be calling them back now to have that done over… Thanks Welder4956 for putting that out there.. Much appreciated..!

I've had 2 F150's back to back over the last few years and both have had major issues before 50,000 miles that aren’t covered under the extended power train warranty.
This may be the last Ford I ever own...
